the ready mix will be ok minnie, worry not! Most tilers used a bagged cementitious adhesive that;s all. no need to use the primer g if you're using tubbed adhesive, take it back( the primer g) and get a refund/credit, it's not needed with dispersion adhesive

What about the piece of horizontal plywood that's in front of the bath. Will I need it for that? There's also horizontal white tiles to the right of the bath. They're a mess. It looks like there was a great big gap between the tiles and the bath and it's been stuffed with paper and filled over with polyfilla.I can't insert images and you can't see them. arghMaybe you can copy and paste the links. Not tonight obviously as I'm sure you've better things to do, but here's one of the timber and another of the hole at the top left.argh, I can't post direct links either!DivShare - File Not Found I can't get into Divshare to get other picture. I'm going to bed.*insert head banging on wall smiley*

you click left on the smiley, then copy, come back to your post and paste, ( you'll see the bbcode at first, then when you've posted, the smiley should appear with your text)

I know how to post smilies. You should just be able to click on them and they appear but they weren't for me last night. Let's see if they do today.

Yep, they're working

Excellent. I'm going to use that on the other bulletin board I go on.

Right, I'll dig those two pictures out

Evening all again.

Wondering if someone can advise where this wall ends?

As you can see, whoever laid the tiles before ended one lot under the window sill then sort of started a new wall above the sink. s you can see though, there's a bit cut round the sink and below it, so I don't know whether to end a tile under the window sill or carry it through to the left-hand bit of wall over the sink IYSWIM. Sorry, I've probably not explained that very well

what a transformation since taking those old tiles off. You're nearly there :20: Just sand back that mist coat, prime the walls and then away you go with the tiling :hurray:

Morning

Do I have to completely get rid of all that mist coat or just sand it?

It's not the easiest stuff to get rid of

It would seem I forgot what layout I was going to have with these tiles and have ended up with a 7.5cm (if you go to the bottom of the window sill) gap, or an 8.5cm gap if you go to the top of the tile on top of the window sill. The window sill is a total balls up so I have to start again there. :mad2:

Anyway, my question is, I have a 5cm border mosaic border. What to do? The border could be reduced to 3cm or increased to 6.5cm but that still leaves a gap. Increasing it more makes it look a bit too big.

I can think of 6 options:

1) Put small strip of tile under 5cm border
2) Put small strip of tile on top of 5cm border (I'm guessing that'll look stupid?)
3) Put in 5cm border and leave gap between border and window sill
4) Reduce border to 3cm and put tile strip below or above
5) Increase border to 6.5cm and have a gap
6) Rip it all down and start again Minnie.

No. 6 is not an option

Minnie how did you set out the room?how did you know where to start and why didnt you centre the window wall?

Well obviously I didn't do it correctly, but I know that. I was trying to work it so that a grout line would meet with the one either level with the top of the sink or the shelf above the sink, but I spent so long with different measurements and different tile sizes I got slightly confuddled

Then I decided to hack away the bit by the sink that was on an angle.

I also took tiles from two different boxes without checking for variation in size. I remembered to check it was the same colour but forgot about the size.

I'm having trouble applying enough pressure to tile cutter so am having to resort to a tile nibbler which resulted in a shard of tile assaulting my finger today and drawing blood, so I've ended up with a very wonky uneven corner as well, as I had tile the wrong way round so I will probably take the end ones off.

This tiling lark's great fun innit

Hope you like my battens, although I was hoping nobody would notice them
