after the last week and today I might seriously start turning away work that has no parking!..did a flat in Hackney London last week that should've taken 2 days tops..ran into 3 cos there was no parking ANYWHERE!!..I found a pay & display 2 mins walk away (at extortianate prices I might add!!..20p per 3 mins!!) but you had to move hourly..a serious drag when you're up 8 floors!!..subsequently the job ran into a 3rd day and I am well and truly glad to see the back of it!
..just been today to price a job in a new block of designer flats..again 6th floor..no parking for trades even tho' it's self contained development...to be honest I seriously wonder if I can be bothered after the last one.
Why don't these buildings have any provision made for tradesmen???they all have 'trade' buzzers on the doors..what do they think we arrive by??..rollerskates???..it's not just a matter of the money, you can always work that into the price..it's the time spent trolling up street and down dale to get your gear into and out of the job...I think I may need a beer..or a nice private job with a drive ha ha ha!:incazzato::incazzato::mad2:

It's a problem very related to the bigger city's, of which stoke isn't so not had that sort of problem toooo much. Had to cart gear and tiles up flats don't get me wrong, but we could part with the back doors holding the flat doors open and do it quite quickly.

Well done for sticking to it. Stick down half a day more for the parking AND TIME on this new one if you do take it on.

I know where youre coming from Jamie parking in London is a pain in the butt, and in central London it costs an arm and a leg. Ive been clamped and towed! Every job now I always ask about parking. And every bleedin' council is different:mad2:. Ive heard of traders that refuse to work in central London and I dont blame them. If its a big job its usually easier to dump all my gear at the site the day before or just drive in the first day then get a tube in the other days.
All good fun. NOT

i had problems working in a shop in hamilton town centre, no parking unless paid for. not as bad price wise mind, 80p an hour that i costed for, but only one machine for whole street, and that was broken. didn,t stop the traffic warden ticketing me tho, even with a big sign in van window stating machine was broken. three days running, three tickets. one angry letter to parking dept, and then a nice letter saying that i was in the wrong for not sorting sorting out alternative method of payment. hmmm. still not paying them.

I gave up working in london due to the unreasonable parking

I feel the same way Mike..I've been trading in London and south east since I started as an apprentice and it really has become virtually impossible now in most central areas. I understand why the red routes are everywhere, just why no provisions are given to people who are carrying out works (not just tiling!.. cities need all trades!) what with that and the congestion charge it's a seriousl wallop on the price of every job...I think it may be time to skulk back to the suburbs!

I was actually planning to go yo the Mapei tour on the 20th at ally pally, but I reckon I may shift this job now and use the parking space there!!!..only joking!
