pay day

hi peeps

my boss was telling me hes giving me a pay rise this month,i asked how much and he mentioned 100 quid extra a month,ive been with him for 18 months and i can be left alone on most jobs apart from floors or bigger floors i should say.do you this is good or is he being a tight ***.100 quid a month aint much when you break it down,i dont know wat to asked for:yikes:

any advice would be good

That's 1200 a year, say you're on 12,000 a year, that's a 10% increase. Not bad. If you're on 24,000 a year it's 5%. Still not bad.

Maby he is happy with your work? I have raised pay rate (£25 per week, after tax) to my labourer, after only 3 weeks he's been with me. He is wery hard working young man And if he will keap that way, will do same again in few months time

if he laid you off tomorrow, i guarantee you by the end of this month you would so grateful to get your old job back without the £100 increase!!! when you are rocking the world, you can demand the world but until you can be left alone on that big floor ;0) take what he's offering you with a smile and a sincere show of gratitude mate...

i had done abit of tiling before,but you could say he has trained me.

if i offered one of my lads a pay rise and he put it on a forum that he was unhappy about it,i would would give him a pay decrease and tell him to have a bit more respect for the man who finds the work,prices the work,pays for materials,pays for van,diesel, insurance for van,insurance for employees ,employees tax,national ins,oh and pays the man every week while said employer sometimes has to wait months for money,just saying like

I think the general opinion is that you should be grateful, I'd also add if he's just decided upon this without you having to ask for it then I'd be proud of myself, he's obviously happy enough with you.. I'd get to morrisons for a slab of beer for him too

It depends on what you are already being paid and what the local rates are and if you think you could do any better somewhere else.

Personally I think you're lucky to have a job in the tiling industry (or any kind of construction for that matter) at the moment at all. Getting a payrise aswell is a massive bonus regardless of how much it is, even more so if your boss gave it to you without you asking for it. He is obviously conscious of how hard you are working and how good the quality of your work is. I'd take it as a huge compliment if I were you (and maybe buy the next round as a thank you).

Keep at it. He sounds like a good bloke to work for. As Deano touched on, once you can be left alone on jobs and do your own work for him, he's likely to increase your wage again. He seems that way inclined.

The £100 a month is better in your pocket than his pocket, can't grumble about it.
