Plastering course to help with tiling

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hey mate, I did a 5 day course on plastering which covered dry lining, skimming, some bonding out then touched on rendering. Was really useful!! I then put up a couple of boards in my garage and just kept going over that.....garage is now 3" wide:lol: Worthwhile!!!

Where was your course and how much did it cost Turkish?

Definately going to do one of these courses. Planning on doing it in June coz i'll be able to pay for it using my signing on fee i get from my football club  happy days lol...

Any knowlege is helpful....plastering will help your action for applying adhesive, afer all , all a tiler does is plaster the walls with adhesive, compensating for the poor plastering gone before.....Gaz

had to bring a plaster in to dot and dab a bathroom wall for me, he only charged her £50 (it was small) having watched him do it I thought thats easy, so when the kitchen (same house) also needed doing I jumped right in and did it myself making a few extra bob, it was so simple. I'm going on a course asap to learn the lot, another string to the bow can't hurt. After that its bathroom fitting. Fed up with plumbers who take my work cos they think they can tile, boot will be on other foot as soon as I get the loot to do the course.

hi calculator,

just think of dotting and dabbing as tiling, only the tiles are 8ft x 4ft and are made of plasterboard ;0)

hi tysfoot, if you really want to learn about plastering then go to goldtrowel in essex www.goldtrowel.org they are the best in the country...its run by chris boot and he is as good a plasterer as you'll find. i knew his brother jeff (hes gone to sunny australia) and they do floor screeding, dot and dab, skimming and floating out in their 5 day course. seriously mate, trust me on this, its the only place to go if you want to learn plastering. pm me your mob number if you need any advice about plastering or their course. they also sell dvds, and they are very informative and cover what you'll do on the course...you can go back down if you want to do the advanced skimming, they also do marble plastering, fiberous too. check out their site for video clips, pics, testamonials etc etc and yes they do have a phone service if you get stuck..

cheers

i thought the same thing because i had a few customers ask me if i could tidy up their old ceiling artex etc so met some dryliners on a site once and they gave me a lot of info on it and i had a go at home on my ceilings and found it ok so now i overlay existing ceilings with plasterboard dry line and emulsion to offer complete job more money in my pocket.

Falcone, did my course in Dartford, Kent and cost £350ish for 5 days! Not sure where you are based but the one Ed (Tilerburden) suggested sounds good too!

evening guys, new to the forums so excuse any mistakes! tys, i'd say do a 4 or 5 day course so you gain a little experienc of d and d . also how to use backing plasters. as for skimming practice, practice and practice. your a tiler so are good with your hands, with good instruction you'll be able to skim to a decent standard. the principle remains the same and reaching a very good standard will come with time. half the battle is preparation of the wall. i go on a superb forum run by a fella who really knows his stuff and the rest of the lads on there are really helpful too. before any time served spreads give me grief, just like tiling it'll take yrs to learn every aspect, but for most domestic work you'll soon be up and running. if a moderator on here could let me know if its allowed i'll post the web addy, i dont think you'll ever need another ref plastering! p.s feel free to pm me and ill help out as far as i can. dave.
