if it took him 4 days to do the job then he must of strung it out a bit ....even unskilled it should of taken no more than 2 days......way i see it if he didn't give her a quote and just plucked a figure out of thin air when the job was finished then its up to her if she pays it.....surly she just pays what she thinks the jobs worth.

whitebeam i did say im not sure of legal standings in her favour to her but she seeme adament .

If the quality is'nt there then that maybe her fall back to argue the price

Unfortunate circumstances but, Im very sure this lady will learn from this. If there is no genuine reason for the costs then shame on the plumber.

no the plumber would not give her a quote but it alsoturns out he is a frind of a friend and he tiled her bathroom. the tiles were 4inch ceramic with a 2 inch mosaic border with a feature of mosaics going from hob to hood nothing majorly hard wish i could get £30.00 per m2

She must have been happy with his previous work!

I wouldn't get involved - especially for £20 - (drive to the job/measure up/talk/drive home/type up estimate/postage - minimum of 2hours work + petrol)

I'd speak to the plumber and offer to do his tiling on a sub contract basis, so you both make money and the customer gets the job done in an appropriate time span.

if she has a teaching degree she should know better, get quotes at least 3 then you will get a idea of cost other than that you can price a job on the internet as for who you choose i would go with the one who has the best credentials or a good portfolio

this is the problem with charging by the hour, if he charges 20 an hr plus 9 an hr for unskilled oppo and she agrees to this then theres not a lot she can do now, unless the work is poor or the charge is ridiculous then thats it, if she refuses he will sue her

I dont charge by the day or the hour, I charge on the value of the job , regardless of time taken

I would be looking to charge £25 an hour consultancy fee for site visits and reports and I would want it now not when she loses in court

Unless the work is sub-standard, then I don't think she has a right to complain. I also don't think we have a right to say he has charged too much....... He was employed on an hourly rate, so if it took him 4 days then so be it. If the customer wasn't happy with the speed she could have stopped the work and got it sorted out.

why did she ask him to proceed with the job without a price upfront?
she has no right imo to complain now the jobs done,in regards to the price i wouldnt be much cheaper and other quotes once hes finished are not relevant

also she isnt complaining about the workmanship,i personally wouldnt go near this job brinkley
