Alright guys

As some of you know ive been posting on here for a good few months and there are hundreds of new guys on here.

Im thinking of giving the tiling up because the last few jobs ive had ive not enjoyed it at all. last job i did i thought it would take 4 days max, but everything went wrong and took me 6 day. Also made me think do i really wanna be doing this for the rest of my life.

The other things that is getting to me is getting my name about and having regular work. So far im in yell.com, yellow pages, local rag, website business cards everywhere and im still getting no work. costing me a fortune
I cant see how i can make a decent living from this as one week i could earn 700 quid but next week ill be out of work and week after ll earn 200 quid. I need regular income

Also what am thinking of is all these new tilers and the fact there are 3 tiling schools in manchester alone. within a few years everyone in manchester would have done a course so there is to much competition.

Am sure people who have been tiling for years and years there wasnt so much competition.

Also competition brings down prices. I set my prices out at 20sm or £120 a day. so when i quote for a bathroom i never get the job cos they can get it £150 quid cheaper. To many people undercuting

Its been a really bad start to the year. 3 jobs this year. not good is it. im getting in so much debt its untrue so am thinking am gonna get a full time job get out of my debt. keep my tools and when im financialy sound ill consider getting back into it.

Sorry to be a bore guys, bit of a long moan i know

No need to apologise tys mate...needs must and if you are not earning whilst trying to tile then you have to make money another way..as you say keep your tools and give it a go again once things pick up....don't stop off the forums though mate...

1. we will miss you and your humour

2. you need to keep up to speed with new products etc........

3. most of all. good luck to you and your future....................

i see you have done exstensive advertising.....this is a good thing if you are established and have "spare" cash for it.......cancel the lot........and try and befriend someone in a tile shop near you, if you can get your foot in the door they will be able to give you a job a week....and if you cant befriend em bribe em....for every job they pass to you that you get, bung em a few quid...they will apprieciate the extra few quid and you will be in work!!!!!

give this a go before you hang up your trowel....i hate hearing sad storys..

best of luck.....

p.s i have done this and it worked for me1!!!!

Sorry to here this, But i don't think this will be the last post like this. Unfortunately going on a tiling course isn't the road to wealth. I only tile part time, as i have a few other irons in the fire. I have just started a carpet and upholstery, hard floor cleaning buisness to run along side my tiling, so if one thing is quite the other is busy. I find that if your inside somebody's house tiling and mention you clean floors etc the generally want a price, got lots of jobs this way. You could try doing this...UNLESS YOUR NEAR HEATHFIELD WHERE I LIVE THEN THERE IS NO MONEY IN EITHER SO GO AWAY..

cheers guys. Like i said its very hard getting the work im im not in a good enough position to have the stress to look for the work. £250 a week regular income in my bank account will do me for now. its far less stressfull than 600 one week, 150 week after 500 week after and nothing week after that.

Its been good posting on here, thought me alot.

ill still post and read but i just need 6 months before i can think about doing it full time.

I don't think that comment is true..there are quite a few members on here who have done a course and have a good tiling business going....it is down to getting good contacts and being in the right place at the right time...

Some areas have more tilers than others , so it is hard for some to get going..nothing to do with doing a course...............

very true. seems to me there are to many tiling courses and to much competition in manchester with everyone seem to undercutting everyone. Not enough to be made.
When i did the course i was thinking ill be earning about 30k a year. Very wrong i was. New people starting out would only be earning max 12k first year 17k second year and 20k plus year after. Its hard as ive found out.

There just my estmations

 im also sorry to hear that ur thinkin of packin in but like you said you need a regular income and thats important just dont get rid of ur tools u never know

i do believe it is harder for people that have just done tiling courses to make it in the tiling world most self employed tilers are time served with working on building sites and large commercial jobs for tiling firms their names get put forward and they can build a good reputation whereas most course tilers dont get that opportunity thats just my opinion but most self employed tilers around my area have alot of experience in the tiling industry

ps tysfoot something to bright your spirits up next week if your available can you come and help me at warrington i should get paid begining of next week so the offer is there if you want it probaly next wednesday or summat like that
