Best of luck to you Paul. I am at the same point as you. Just got my cards printed and need to go out and get them in the tiling and plumbing places etc.

I just don't know what to say to them really. Just thought that I would say I am setting up in the area and am looking for somewhere I am going to send my customers and do they have anyone they reccommend to their customers.

What 'chat' did you give them?

I didn't really have to give them much in the way of chat TBH, as soon as i told them i was a tiler they kinda knew what i wanted, But all i did was, i went into the shop and asked to speak to their manager he wasn't there so they asked me if they could help, so basically all i said was that i was a tiler and was wondering how i go about getting trade discounts and how i go about putting my cards into the shop.
The rest basically fell into place as they were really helpful and friendly, I wouldn't worry too much about selling yourself to the shop although you do need to come across as a decent guy, remember you are bringing them custom as well as them giving you custom, after that i kept popping back in the shop just for a look around and while i was there i had a quick natter with whoever was serving people and Bobs your uncle as they say. Don't worry about it they will take your cards and give them out .Hope it all goes well for you. Paul

Paul, went to a big tile outlet near me today to have a look around and had a chat with the guys at the counter and you're right, they knew what I wanted. They were pretty nice chaps really and this has given me confidence to go and speak to every other place I can think of.

I thought about going round the houses with leaflets too. Thing is it's not like window cleaning or gardening etc as if you get a leaflet through the door about window cleaning you sort of think yeah i'll give them a ring as i can't be bothered to do it myself and it only costs a few quid. Tiling cost a fair bit more and either needs doing or it doesn't.

They reckon you get a 1% reply from flyers but who knows. Might give it a try while I don't have much work.

Best of luck Paul, vistaprint is OK really, but remember to virus scan computer after EVERY contact with them, got a trojan and wiped ALL my data (20Gig of music, photos etc).
It is also worth setting up a separate email address cos you get inundated with offers. free ones that you only pay postage are well worth waiting for. notepads, flyers, postcards even a rubber stamp!
