Hi guys, got a job today. Kitchen floor, using ceramic in brick bond. The floor now is made of very old, incredibly solid sandstone. The other thing is the floor slopes slightly at different points.

If any one can help with these queries it would be great.

1) how do a level the floor up? Do i just use SLC? What if i need to get it to about 2cm thick to even out the floor?

2) Do i need to treat the sandstone before I put SLC down? If that is indeed the best way to get the floor level?

3) If i use SLC do i need to prime it with APD before i put the rapid set on?

Can you use a thicker bed of SLC than 6 mm? IF so, how?

I know there is a lot there but any help would be appreciated.

MAny regards

Will

If you need to build up,put grano chippings in the SLC.Or screed in layers.APD before SLC and after before tiling.Bal multibase, uses 5.5 litres of water to a bag,put in 6 and it levells better

By layers - could i throw a couple of bags down, let it level, then leave it 24 hours and throw a couple more down to build up the lowest points? It is about 2.5 cm lower at its lowest point.

hello wilbones mate. if u use ardex k15 to level floor it will go upto 15 mm with no chippings and upto 35mm with chippings......use bal bond sbr to prime this will aid the leveller to adhere to sand stone floor better and add a little sbr to the leveller this will help with the flow and create less airbubbles in the slc.......

OK - i've decided to use SLC with grano in it to bulk it out so i can get the thickness up safely to what I need. Does anyone know what ratio I should mix the grano in at? I was thinking 1:1, but dont really have a scooby. Second, I will prime with APD initially, lay on SLC, then re-prime with APD. Can anyone reccomend a good reasonalby priced SLC? Its for a family member and they want to use B&Q's own SLC - but i have no experience with them. So, 2 questions are:

1) What ratio to mix the grano in to the SLC at

2) A good reasonably priced SLC?

Many thanks fellas

ardex k15 is about £23 a bag.. watch them cheaper ones as sometimes they might crack when used to thick....
