Congrats on pulling this one off on YOUR terms, maintaining professionalism and keeping the work. 
You might just turn this guy around and do his work for some time in the future. Hopefully he learns the ropes and estimates appropriately for the tile work on upcoming jobs.

Up date on what has happend!!!
Turned up to the job and the walls had been completely stripped and replaced with Hardi backer board:hurray: And the builder was there with me cash as agreed
Apparently the home owner had got involved after over hearing our heated discussion and called in a interior designer which they had been using for a second oppinion!
I have since tiled the bathroom and the buider has given me two more jobs which i have specked myself and he is letting me do all the preperation work from now on, and there are more jobs to follow from this as he has realized that i was right and i know how to do my job!
Not only this but the interior designer has also spoken to me and has said that she will recommend me for any tiling work that she gets involved with, so this has turned out great for me:hurray:
