@Grumpy

Im not trying to find a quick way out or anything but (theres always a but lol )

Do you think that would be ok as the wall seems bloody solid and i had to really bash the old tiles off.

I was just about to nip out and get the boards. i was going to prime the walls prior to tiling any way.

Gaz

Ps thanks for replies.

Hi Gaz, we as forum contributors can only offer advice as we see it from the questions posted. If you are confident that the walls are able to take the load you are proposing to put on it then by all means go ahead.

I personally would take the longer, more expensive and ultimately safer root of doing it as has been suggested. Consider that 4m2 of solid stone weighing something like 100kg could fall off into your nice new bathroom, possibly hurting/killing someone and then make a decision based on cost.

It is your call as you are the only person that has seen the conditions upon which you are tiling.

Whichever way you go, let us know how you get on and maybe post some pictures to the gallery. Good luck.

Evening peeps

Bit of advice please if youd be so good.

I have primed the walls and fully backer boarded the entire bathroom now.

I put some tiles up on the internal part of the bathroom wall at weekend (about half a dozen ),After i had finnished boarding out today i noticed that a small crack appeared all the way down the adhesive side of the tile.

I knocked it and it sounded hollow, i managed to prsie the tile off the wall (it came away quite easily) the adhesive has stuck to the wall very well but not to the back of the tile.

Do i have to prep the rear of the tiles or am i using the wrong adhesive.
When i got the tiles the adhesive is what the guy advised me to use,( its called nicobond interior \ exteriror wall and floor adhesive)

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

MAny thanks

what size tile is it and does it have a profiled back...some times you need to back skim the tiles to get a good hold....

Not familiar with your adhesive Gaz so I am unable to comment on that. Did you prime your backerboard? Usually no need to prime backerboard, in fact I think board manufacturers say not to as you are then applying your adhesive to a good cement surface, which it was designed for.

Was the adhesive a powder adhesive? If so maybe you had the mix wrong. Not sure about whether your adhesive was suitable for stone or not.

Wait for guys that use Nicobond to respond they may have better info.

was the tile cut with a wet cutter ? dry the back first & as the Dave the man says skim the back that will give you a better key Pete
