hi gary mate..deffo back skim the tiles.. this will fill any holes and imperfections in the back and create a much stronger bond....good luck and let us know how you get on...........

Just checked on nicobond site and they recommend this for stone...

Whats te diff in back skimming the tile as opposed to fitting it directly to the skimmed wall?

Would it not help if i sealed the tiles with Apd.

Dont want to be in the bath in the middle of it and a tile knocking me out haahahahah.

Going to ringNicobond up in the morn and ask what hey think, Ill get back and lt you know.

He means skim the back of the tile as well. This gives the tile effectively a solid fix which should aid adhesion.

Hi guys

Just a quick update, spoke to the people at Nico and they wanted to get a rep out too have a look, i said i didn't have time for that just wanted to know if i had done anything wrong.

The guy was very helpful and from what i had told him everything was spot on and he couldn't understand why this was happening.

So i rang a local tile suppliers up wink wink and spoke to a guy who advised me to user Bal natural stone rapid fix adhesive as he almost guaranteed i wouldn't have a problem.

So off i popped to get another 4 bags of the said adhesive.

I then spent the next 3 hours trying to scrape off the old bloody tile adhesive from the walls. (Blisters to prove hahaha)

Any way all tiles removed and cleaned up and cleaned the mess every where bloody dust.

Used the Bal adhesive and guess what SPOT ON.

Also tried out the new big wet cutter i bought and well impressed with that also,so apart from being way behind schedule everything at the mo seems OK.

Got back to where i was the other day (tiles on wall). looks like nothing change from the other day hahaha.

Anyway guys thanks for all the advice , appreciated a lot.

Ill post pics if any ones interested ltr.

Any way back to work tomorrow, so it'll have to wait after i get in.

Gaz, it sounds like you've bought unsealed travertine, which is cheaper than the sealed stuff. If it's not been sealed then your adhesive will be filling the porous holes and you will be losing some of your fixing power. I don't touch jobs like this - it's sealed travertine or I don't do it.

There's nothing wrong with Nicobond Gaz, they're a good company so you shouldn't have any problems.

Out of interest, did you make sure you cleaned the tiles properly before buttering them? If there is a layer of dust on them this could also add to your fixing troubles.

No need to apply APD primer to the boards mate. They're designed to be tiled straight onto.

Morning fella's

Ive got a bag in the car ill have a look ltr and tell you exactly what it is (i thinkk its called natural stone adhesive (BAL)

The rear of the stone is white and doesnt look as though it has been sealed, i did clean the tile up first to get the powder off it.

Had a look this morn and they are well and truely stuck (phew)

Any way managed to give myself a little shiner last night as the bloody spirit level fell off the tile and lamped me on the sid eof the eye lol.

Any way back tpo work for me fella's.

I was going to bin the Nicobond but if its ok then ill save it for the kitchen floor that she wants doing next.

the nicobond natural stone speedflex is great to use and never had a problem with it. it sounds like you were using fast floor and wall adhesive. i have never used it as i always use flexi adhesive. with travertine i always back skim it with the flat side of the trowel to get rid of dust and improve adheshion. were you using the gear too stiff as it will stick to the wall and not the trowel if it was

Evening fella's.

Been a busy holiday for me again and the missus is on my case again hahaha.

Whats your thoughts on cutting Trev tiles along the 600 mm edge,i have a wet cutter thats spot on for the 400mm length but not the other way.

Was looking to hiring a larger wet cutter but cant find one :-(

So i thought about using a rinder with a desent wheel on it.

Also which trim do you think looks best with above tiles either chrome or the plastic beige coloured one.
