Weight of Limestone & Travertine per square meter?

Yes I can see the pics now, a beautiful looking bathroom with stunning limestone tiles and me sitting in the bath with a hard hat on with a sign on the wall saying Danger possible falling objects.

If you are using natural stone of any kind do you not seal both sides before you start tiling? If you do then this will solve the problem of bleeding and dispersion can sill take place in to the plaster. I believe this is a solution to a problem rather than ripping the poor mans bathroom apart for the sake of 1.25kg.

Why is that then? I am not trying to be argumentative, I am just trying to understand why you think there is not a problem?

if the tiles are 18kg and the adhesiv and grout are 3.25kg the Limit is 20kg there is only 1.25kg discrepancy and in my humble opinion there is no problem

I see where you are coming from. I don't agree with the rationale or the weight figures for the addy and grout but thats fine. Thanks for replying.

Some more thought on this. I take it I would be okay to put new plasterboard on top of the skimmed board drilling straight through into the battens and this should help me with the weight issue.

One more question. When you have to tile a floor and and walls in a bathroom which do you do first. Is it the floor first with the wall on top or the wall first with the floor against the wall.

If you are going to screw plasterboard up why not remove the old stuff first, it wouldn't take long, or is that a bath removal job first?

As for you second question, it is all down to personal preference. I personally do walls first as it stops you dropping something and damaging your floor and also you don't get adhesive and grout all over your new surface. Some others do the floor first, and others do the wall except for the bottom course and do that at the end after the floor is down.

After giving it much thought I have decided to go with the 10mm Limestone tiles on the skimmed plastered walls that are already in place.
I will order the tiles first thing in Tuesday so wish me luck. Any more thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.
