what thickness of ply?

got three jobs coming up that will require me to put ply up,and just double checking which thickness of ply would be needed? 2 of the jobs require me to remove broken tiles from a whole shower wall,as they have cracked from top to bottom-im removing all tiles and putting ply up to hopefully prevent any further cracking.
The other is a kitchen floor that has existing vinyal down,which sits on top of floor boards, so ply will need to go down on top.

Normally i get a joiner mate to come in and do it, but with money being tight and having seen that its not exactly rocket science to do it, im going to give it a bash myself.

well don't put it on a wall use plasterboard or tile-board on the floor take the vinyl tiles up so you can screw the floorboards to the joists then screw down 18mm ply but don't forget to seal the edges and back first personally i prefer to use 10mm tile-board on the floor try this how to guide it may help ete

try using hardi-backer board 6mm on floor saves height and 12mm on walls stronger for fixing to and better weight to wall ratio

Malcolm does 6mm hardi-backer give you the same structural strength as 18mm Ply ? ete

Don't get me wrong I'm not having a go but I personally wouldn't go less than 12m/m for a floor.

Malcolm did ring there technical department but they don't have one lol a machine told me to fax them or go to there website but the website says the min of 20mm ply or particleboards in the ply case dint think you can get 20mm but doesn't say floorboards interesting love to know just in case i ever come across these hardi boards regards ete

bal superflex rapid never had a prob I think its the mix that makes the diff
always use a paddle and have it so you can pour onto floor not to wet

Hi Spenny use aquaboard on the walls, wall to weight ratios good with this product. With regards the floor lift vinyal, British standards require 18mm ply never use 6mm use sbr primer to seal back and sides. Alternative you could use G Matt.:beatdeadhorse5:
