this is exactly what i was saying on a thread yesterday about builders doing tiling, why dont they just leave it to people who do it day in and out! What were the reasons you never got the job then Dave?or was it because the builder is a smart arse?

I actually did get the job Bri....i was about to start setting out and noticed the joists flexing at the meeting point to the screed...I phoned the customer to tell him about it and he said discuss it with the builder,,,I did and came back the next day and all he had done was wedge some slaters latt into the soil under the joists and screwed it the the joists for support.....the sleeper wall for the joists had bricks missing and he stuffed some soil in for support...:yikes: and then packed concrete over that thinking i wouldn't notice it...

So when i said it wasn't good enough the wifey of the house wasn't impressed and expressed that he was a top class builder...i said he was a bodger and that the floor wasn't good enough.. i was asked to wait for the builder to come and say exactly what i wanted...after an hr waiting i gave up and said stuff this...and the builder tiled it....my choice to leave but i was NOT putting my name to that floor unless it was right and the builder said it was OK..which it wasn't..

So by the builder sticking his nose into a trade that he had no idea about will now cost the customer dearly and they could not see bad in him.....maybe now they will.

Nearly 41 extra bag at (£15) = over £600 more!
He most likely charged them more labour as well for the 3 weeks.

Sorry Dave i did read that in your original post...well you know you did the right thing.Customer was probably just wanting to save money originally but has cost her dearly!

69 bags lol lol  builders cutting corners they just dont learn slap it up him!:hurray:

Haha will cost them loads extra in the long run, or they will have a poor floor they have to live with.

Reminds me about my friend and his wife whom have been wanting to get their bathroom done up. She has been asking me about getting it tiled for a while, and I also gave them numbers of very good plumber and a very good plasterer.

Job comes around and I ask when they want to get me in.

"Oh we are going with this company that will do everything, tiling is £70 all in extra (4.5msq), and we're going to go with them"

"Good luck" I said "I cant compete with that price"

Saw them the other day, the tiling is shonky (her words) and has had the tiler back a few times to try to fix it. And she had the plumbers back in today to point out their snags, and they apparently walked off the job

On a budget, get a budget job, and maybe spend more money in the long run. Ironic really.

70 bags though, thats rediculous. Was he eating it?

Dave, I just did the conversion from sq meters to sq feet, and kgs to pounds, and all I can say now is :yikes:
