Just been looking in my Yellow pages to see how many tilers are in my area (Dundee in Scotland) and there is only 10 listed from Dundee in the Tayside edition (This includes Dundee, Perth, Carnoustie, Monifieth, Forfar etc)

the population of dundee is arond 143,000.

I understand that all tilers dont put their names in the Yellow Pages but can I assume that most do? I know I will at some point!!

This doesnt seem like a lot to me and my friends uncle (who done a few courses 2 years ago) says he is ALWAYS busy!!

happy days lol 🙂

Thanks mate...

thats not a lot is it? 10 from a population if 143,000? I was expecting to see at least 20-25!!

Yes go for it - I think YP is still quite popular and people look for a local guy. Oldies like me are not always computer litterate and still rely on it. The main reason for it not being effective is just too many tradesmen in there but at just 10 for that coverage I think you'll do well.

What you need to do is increase your odds from having only a 1 in 10 chance, by being more distintive in some way.
Maybe a fantastic photo of your work, a prominent web address that sticks in peoples mind (that then links to ayour portfolio oinline),or a memorable logo and that sort of thing. Then your in with the 3 or 4 people they choose to get a quote from.

dont want to rain on your parade but YELL.COM you can set up a free listing on there! but beware they will pester you to join with a picture for a mere £600 per year!
try the free listings first & see how you go, 600 is alot of pennies if it dont work out m8!

I got a free listing, then got the phone call to get me to have a paid advert, 6x6 box so it's a decent size £300 inc vat, happy days.

It's not a con though, as I was planing on having a propper advert for the book anyway, and I've already had quite a few calls from being listed on the net.
