Domestic property, TNCS supply, 25mm tails to RCBO C/U with 100A main switch.

I want to install a distribution circuit from the aforementioned C/U (I dont want to split tails) to supply a second RCBO C/U (essentially a garage board), serving little more than a lighting and power circuit.

The cable supplying the second board is 10mm T&E and already...

Disabling a setting on a Belling cooker hood. Discussion ThreadDisabling a setting on a Belling cooker hood. Electrical Advice

I am going to install a log burner in an open plan kitchen breakfast room. I think the Belling cooker hood, on it's highest setting, is extracting too much air. Setting 1 and 2 seem to be ok. To satisfy my burner fitter, is it possible to disable setting 3 on the hood. If so, how is it done. Thanks.

Using a surface box differently Electrical Advice

Using a surface box differently Discussion ThreadUsing a surface box differently Electrical Advice

An electrician installed a NEMA 6-20 20A 230V outlet in a surface box for me in my garage, on a dedicated 20A breaker. He was even kind enough to follow code and run a neutral wire:

I would like to replace this outlet with a side-by-side single 6-20 and 5-15 duplex so the box can be used for either for 115V or 230V tools...

Hive connections Electrical Advice

Hive connections Discussion ThreadHive connections Electrical Advice

A neighbour asked me to connect up a Hive wireless controller.
Seemed easy enough, it uses the same standard back plate and connections. Straight swap there… and disconnected the wires going to the room stat, and linked through in the wiring centre.

That was before I went on holiday, and now she says the heating only works when water is on.

I’m going back to have a look, and I really should have taken...

To be reactivated or not to be reactivated? Discussion ThreadTo be reactivated or not to be reactivated? Electrical Advice

I ripped off the old cracked coverings on a wall to install new gyproc. I found in the wall an electrical single gang box (without the receptacle). The white and black wires were black-taped over.

I removed the tape and connected both wires to this device. I did this process twice. First by putting the black wire to the right side of device/white wire to left...

As far as I can tell, there are four wires and one wire with no insulation running inside the sheathing the other wisres are in. I've attached an image...

RCD issue baffling me Electrical Advice

RCD issue baffling me Discussion ThreadRCD issue baffling me Electrical Advice

I have a dual board consumer unit. Both sides have a RCD. The left hand side of the board has all the MCBs for all the 6 ring mains for the property. The right side of the board has the lighting and hob and cooker for the house.

Whenever a current is drawn from a socket the right side RCD trips, but not the left side. So my lights trip but sockets stay on. It happens on any of the 6 ring mains. And seems...

assembling and using both Diferential Switch Triphasic and Monophasic; Discussion Threadassembling and using both Diferential Switch Triphasic and Monophasic; Electrical Advice

I had this issue with the old wiring on the chandelier along with light flickering, so I rewired the chandelier with new sockets and 2ft. leads into the main house wiring as it had been before. Same issue was happening, so I replaced the dimmer switch, same issue happening. I...

Does This Installation Look Correct? Discussion ThreadDoes This Installation Look Correct? Electrical Advice

Hi all,

I wondered if you could give us your thoughts on our friend's installation? I've included some photos. We're sure that there's something wrong with it, but we wanted some expert opinions.

Here's a bit of background:

An electrician changed the original split distribution board and carried out an EICR. Prior to the CU change, the upstairs and downstairs lighting was...
