Issues with megger mft1720 Discussion ThreadIssues with megger mft1720 Electrical Advice

Hi

I've got a megger mft 1720 that I was hoping any one can shed any light on

When performing continuity tests (even when nulling the leads) and earth loop tests I seem to get higher readings than normal.

After a while of testing the tester seems to settle down and gives more accurate readings.

The tester has been calibrated a few months ago but has been like it for a while now. I've...

Ballast for low pressure sodium street light bulbs Discussion ThreadBallast for low pressure sodium street light bulbs Electrical Advice

I have a customer that had an older street light with a 30W Phillips Sox bulb in in. It's an absolute pain to get to as it's mounted on a building very high with obstacles preventing easy ladder access and steps / ramps at ground level all around it.

When it stopped working I offered a new LED unit. He would rather keep the 30W Sox bulb as he is...

Cooker/hob connection at outlet. Discussion ThreadCooker/hob connection at outlet. Electrical Advice

Just getting back into the trade after a brake of some 5 yrs because of circumstances: Can I ask Is it still permiseable to connect both a hob and oven (usually manufacturers different size cables) into one outlet plate behind the oven?
Or is there a better solution now as it always seemed to contravene good practice to me?
Also can the isolator be local in a cupboard instead of...

Unfortunately the house is filled with expensive screwless clear switches...

Nightmare with Steel Conduit Electrical Advice

Nightmare with Steel Conduit Discussion ThreadNightmare with Steel Conduit Electrical Advice

So as I’ve asked about this a few times and I’ve had some time off over Christmas I’ve decided to start it. I’ve first started to cut and thread all the galvanised conduit. Assembled it all with the end boxes and dome lids.

I’ve then primed it and then using some ZG90 sprayed it white. I’ve then had a right challenge getting the right 10mm T&E through the conduit.

I am thinking I may use...

Power restored light Electrical Advice

Power restored light Discussion ThreadPower restored light Electrical Advice

I'm a DIYer. Having been off power for 24 hours last weekend, I've fitted a 100A generator/mains switch. When the generator is running/the mains is isolated, I have no way of telling when the mains power is restored. The meters switchgear etc are in an outbuilding adjacent to the house and I was planning to wire up a neon (in the form of an illuminated switch) in the house, connected to the mains side of the...

How accurate are cheap CT meters Discussion ThreadHow accurate are cheap CT meters Electrical Advice

A client of mine wishes to verify the accuracy of some meters, I was thinking something like the below could be fitted to a 13a plug and moved around more easily than a conventional meter, would you expect reasonably accurate performance from something like this?

Hi, I recently bought a new planer. When I switch it on the RCD in the garage board trips. The machine doesn't try to start, the power trips as soon as the ON button is pressed. It has a 16 amp plug. I plugged it into an existing 16 amp outlet that I use with my welder. The planers info plate says it is 13.5amp.
