Effect of someone touching a device that is protectively earthed Discussion ThreadEffect of someone touching a device that is protectively earthed Electrical Advice

I am trying to calculate (as a theoretical exercise) what the effect would be if someone touched an electrical device that is protectively earthed. I would really appreciate it if anyone could verify my workings.

I am assuming that the current flowing into the enclosure of the class 1 device is 1 Amp (could this...

The new-ish ProjectEV Apex range Discussion ThreadThe new-ish ProjectEV Apex range Electrical Advice

I'm fitting one of the Apex 7S units on Friday.
I'd avoided the original range after a couple of bad experiences but I figured a new model might be better.
I thought I'd list some differences I've noticed so far when compared to the original range:

1 - Even though the connections looks the same, the two connections that were for a CT clamp are now for rs485 A and B. You can't just...

Setting up a new business Electrical Advice

Setting up a new business Discussion ThreadSetting up a new business Electrical Advice

Morning, I’ve been asked to go it alone by a shop fitter but would need to test & certify each job with NICEIC certification. Is there any way of using a third party registered NICEIC testing company to complete the certs? I spoke with the NICEIC and they state I need two years of previous work to be able to apply?

Jacuzzi bath wiring Electrical Advice

Jacuzzi bath wiring Discussion ThreadJacuzzi bath wiring Electrical Advice

Should a jacuzzi bath be wired in H07 flex? Wired one recently and spurred off the ring, just took a twin and earth cable off the spur and into a ip65 box under the bath to join onto the flex. But now I’m thinking should I have used h07 flex for this? Maybe over thinking it lol!

Main Bonding with a crimped lug fixing! Electrical Advice

Main Bonding with a crimped lug fixing! Discussion ThreadMain Bonding with a crimped lug fixing! Electrical Advice

Hey All,

At college, I was taught that main bonding - such as bonding to a gas pipe - must be carried out using a continuous copper conductor running directly from the Main Earthing Terminal (MET) to the pipework, with no extensions or alterations permitted. If the bonding cable is damaged or contains any connections, it must be replaced entirely. However, is it...

This is for 'smart home'...

Signal interference for AICO detectors? Discussion ThreadSignal interference for AICO detectors? Electrical Advice

Hi all
Installed AICO Ei2110e modules some 6 years ago and used their RadioLINK bases to link one set to others in the extension. No issues until recently when a myenergi eddi was installed nearby for the water heating. Since then, alarms sound at infrequent times, but often enough to be really annoying for the customer.
Is this a coincidence, or has anyone else had...

Unknown switch Electrical Advice

Unknown switch Discussion ThreadUnknown switch Electrical Advice

Does anyone know this switch?
It was used in the 1960s by my father to distribute power to either one or two lamps. In one position, one lamp would burn at full intensity, in the other two at half intensity.
I am interested in the name of the switch and what it was originally used for.

With regards to Regulation 531.3. 3 of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022

Older AC type RCD's are prone to being blinded by dc leakage from other items plugged in to the property. In other words this RCD may fail to operate when other electronic items are plugged in which leak DC in to the mains.
