Main Bonding with a crimped lug fixing! Electrical Advice

Main Bonding with a crimped lug fixing! Discussion ThreadMain Bonding with a crimped lug fixing! Electrical Advice

Hey All,

At college, I was taught that main bonding - such as bonding to a gas pipe - must be carried out using a continuous copper conductor running directly from the Main Earthing Terminal (MET) to the pipework, with no extensions or alterations permitted. If the bonding cable is damaged or contains any connections, it must be replaced entirely. However, is it...

WIFI devices in a metal consumer unit. Discussion ThreadWIFI devices in a metal consumer unit. Electrical Advice

Good morning. I intend to replace my oil boiler with electric and a qualified electrician will be doing the job. I see there are lots of din rail mounted WIFI devices such as meters, switches, timers etc and I am considering asking the electrician to incorporate such devices within the new consumer unit feeding the boiler, immersions and controls. This is for 'smart home'...

Boiler side connections for UFH wiring centre Discussion ThreadBoiler side connections for UFH wiring centre Electrical Advice

I've been away from electrical work for about 30 years so I'm not familiar with all the names and terminology that's been introduced over the years.

We're having UFH heating installed. Plumber is doing the pipework, s-plan etc and I'm installing a Heatmiser wiring centre. for the electrical side. Wiring everything up as per the attached diagram is pretty...

Signal interference for AICO detectors? Electrical Advice

Signal interference for AICO detectors? Discussion ThreadSignal interference for AICO detectors? Electrical Advice

Hi all
Installed AICO Ei2110e modules some 6 years ago and used their RadioLINK bases to link one set to others in the extension. No issues until recently when a myenergi eddi was installed nearby for the water heating. Since then, alarms sound at infrequent times, but often enough to be really annoying for the customer.
Is this a coincidence, or has anyone else had...

Unknown switch Electrical Advice

Unknown switch Discussion ThreadUnknown switch Electrical Advice

Does anyone know this switch?
It was used in the 1960s by my father to distribute power to either one or two lamps. In one position, one lamp would burn at full intensity, in the other two at half intensity.
I am interested in the name of the switch and what it was originally used for.

Hi, I'm working in a building which has a three phase supply. There is two electric showers, sockets, water heater and lights going in a toilet block/seating area. EICR question, OLD AC RCD- code 3 or no code? Discussion ThreadEICR question, OLD AC RCD- code 3 or no code? Electrical Advice

With regards to Regulation 531.3. 3 of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022

Older AC type RCD's are prone to being blinded by dc leakage from other items plugged in to the property. In other words this RCD may fail to operate when other electronic items are plugged in which leak DC in to the mains.
Regulation 531.3. 3 of BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 states that the appropriate RCD...

My outlet is on two circuits at once... Discussion ThreadMy outlet is on two circuits at once... Electrical Advice

I have an ancient home with knob and tube wiring, and a breaker box from the 70s. It's all a mess, with circuits powering random things on opposite ends of the house. The breaker box has breakers with multiple wires spliced or coming out of the stud and all the neutral studs are overloaded with wires. Yes I would update this if I could afford it but until then I have one...

I'm trying to replace an outlet receptacle in my house. The home was built in 2001 and we have never replaced any receptacles. I realized after undoing the box (power was shut off and tested a low voltage but no issue) that there were two copper grounding wires wrapped around a screw in the back of the metal box behind the outlet receptacle. There was no...

Do you think then solar boom is over for existing properties? Discussion ThreadDo you think then solar boom is over for existing properties? Electrical Advice

I think I'm right in guessing that most of the grants have stopped long ago when it comes to adding them to your existing property?

So does that mean the solar boom a decade back has fully stopped these days?

Any grants and things to add them to new properties? Or would you just be buying a house with them already on these...

Hello all.
I have been asked to fit a Ryefield board and switch-fuse on an existing 3 phase supply so that a shop can have its own meter and 3 additional meters are going to be installed for future flats above the shop.

Have spoken to UKPN and they are only down to upgrade the existing fuses to 100amp, the connection of the Ryefield and meters is to be carried out by...

Ancillary to my other post, I wanted to check if something was up to standard in part of the installation I'm doing.
