IR reading Electrical Advice

IR reading Discussion ThreadIR reading Electrical Advice

I was called to a tripped rcbo on a lighting circuit. Using my megger 1721 I checked continuity between N and E but noticed an induced voltage of around 15V. Same across L and E. When I did IR checks the readings fluctuated between 1 and 90M and eventually the meter showed ‘Error’ and had to be recycled to work again. Put it all back together and it stayed on. Went away an hour later was called to say it tripped again.

TT advise Discussion ThreadTT advise Electrical Advice

Hi everyone ,

I have a new build Rewire coming up. Currently the meter is in a green cabinet at the front of the driveway and the new house will be around 30 metres away. I have done all the calculations for the cable which is fine. The earthing system is currently a TT system with a spike (will renew) behind the green cabinet. I will be installing an RCBO consumer unit in the house. Currently there is a “temporary” supply which...

Why is natural at 0 volts? Electrical Advice

Why is natural at 0 volts? Discussion ThreadWhy is natural at 0 volts? Electrical Advice

I’m confused why neutral is at 0v (or close too) in certain situations!

TN-C-S system for this example, no borrowed neutrals or faults! A simple lighting circuit!

Now I can understand that when the circuit is open neutral would be at 0 volts due to it being connected to the earthing conductor and having no line to it! Now let’s say we closed that circuit (turned a light on), I can’t...

Earthing, Metals and different voltages during faults Discussion ThreadEarthing, Metals and different voltages during faults Electrical Advice

Hello,

I have a few questions on the image I have attached:
I am proposing to put a small electrical metal box within a larger electrical metal box but having them both physically isolated via a non-conductive plastic. The larger electric box would have electronic equipment that is powered from a 240v source protected by an RCD and stepped...

Powering an AC distribution center/panel from two sources Discussion ThreadPowering an AC distribution center/panel from two sources Electrical Advice

I have a small camper. I'd like the option to power the distribution center/panel from either shore power or by the AC output from a Jackery solar generator.

I'm thinking to have a two-position changeover switch with one input and two outputs. Input would be from shore power as it comes into the camper. One output would direct...
