UPS specification for pool pumps Electrical Advice

UPS specification for pool pumps Discussion ThreadUPS specification for pool pumps Electrical Advice

Background
A pool installation uses two single phase pumps to circulate the water (through a boiler, and filtering, dosing etc). The pumps are controlled via contactors in the pump house, plus a remote emergency stop close to the pool. The location is somewhat rural, and prone to power cuts, usually of a short duration. If there is a power cut, the pumps can be tripped until someone...

Having some issues with my companys fluke 1662/1663 tester.
Zeroing 2 leads for continuity test we get the value 0.08 which is expected. The issue comes doing the Zi (loop impedance) the instructions say to zero 3 leads for this test ( if you try to zero two leads L and PE it reads >3.00ohm) you have to zero with all 3 leads connected, the value for 3 leads is 0.14.

We have tested a sub main and the...

Getting 'back' into the industry.. Discussion ThreadGetting 'back' into the industry.. Electrical Advice

Hello all - my first post. I'm looking to get 'back' into the industry, or on the tools should I say and looking for opinions on the best route to do so.

A little about me, I started my career as an electrical apprentice and a few years after, working in a manufacturing setting. My main skills were in LV installation, maintenance, PLCs, Drives and general manufacturing...

Legal question Electrical Advice

Legal question Discussion ThreadLegal question Electrical Advice

I know for example the requirements of Part P, and new work
A question … if somone installs an item that is plainly in contravention of Electrical safety, do they actually break any law.
The question relates to a house owner and own work - not work for others.

I give an example, I have seen a Hot tub installation where electrical sockets are closer than the 2m requirement, and also a television plugged into one of the...

240v Single Pole vs Double Pole Electrical Advice

240v Single Pole vs Double Pole Discussion Thread240v Single Pole vs Double Pole Electrical Advice

I'm now in West Virginia but my wife and I also own a home in the Philippines. The current in our province is 240v, but single pole.

I have experience wiring houses in the US so I know that the 240v here consists of two 120v wires that are 180 degrees out of phase.

That brings me to my question. Some expats who are planning to live in the Philippines want to know if their 240v US...

Trunking- to use PVC or Steel. Electrical Advice

Trunking- to use PVC or Steel. Discussion ThreadTrunking- to use PVC or Steel. Electrical Advice

Normally I would say PVC for a small office in a house. However, they are in the middle of deciding if the building will become a six-bedroom hostel for people with issues (so there is a possibility the office might get damaged), or if it will be converted into a dental surgery. The risk assessment is obviously different for both so do I just do steel trunking?

Earthing Armour with BS951 clamps? Discussion ThreadEarthing Armour with BS951 clamps? Electrical Advice

I was replacing a socket that had a cracked face and as I took said socket off I noticed the armour was earthed by using BS951 clamps. I wasn’t expecting to see any earthing of the armour as the SWA was in a conduit drop to the socket.

I’ve never seen it done like that before but now I walk around the factory and automatically assume every SWA I see entering a conduit drop will...

Why do so many trades use plasterboard screws for everything? Certainly didn't secure the shower svreen to the wall in the main bathroom, and also fitter must have lost the little chrome grub-screws for the standoffs for the...

LED T8 lights Electrical Advice

LED T8 lights Discussion ThreadLED T8 lights Electrical Advice

Having done the numbers I modified my 5 x 4ft double batens in the workshop to take LED tubes T8 22W. After less than a couple of years, 50% have failed. They flash annoyingly just like the old tubes and then give up altogether. Has anyone else had the same experience. One theory is they don't dissipate heat fast enough?

Anyone using the KEW-80L thermal printer? I've only hit the second roll it came with and now it's spooling 2 labels out and often missing the label itself and printing over two. I've reset it, check settings are right, left battery out overnight etc, nothing seems to work.
Ironically it's come at my busiest time.

Hi All,
