Napit.. Do you still choose the job, or do they? Discussion ThreadNapit.. Do you still choose the job, or do they? Electrical Advice

On the Napit certification page there is a little tick box, saying something along the lines of ' I consent to this job being used for my assessment '.
Does this mean Napit makes its own choice, from that list, or do we still choose which job is used for the assessment?

How can I teach myself inspection and testing in preparation for my AM2S? Discussion ThreadHow can I teach myself inspection and testing in preparation for my AM2S? Electrical Advice

I have my AM2S next month, and testing is my biggest weakness by far.

I’ve been asking my company to put me on jobs where there is testing work available but it rarely ever happens. Whenever those opportunities do appear, they are very quickly completed by the experienced sparks on the team, often by...

Extend ring for boiler and outside socket Electrical Advice

Extend ring for boiler and outside socket Discussion ThreadExtend ring for boiler and outside socket Electrical Advice

DIYer question
I need to add an FCU to the kitchen ring for a boiler and also an outdoor socket.
I don’t want to extend the ring to the outside socket in case of water getting in.
Can I put the FCU for the boiler on the ring and does a 3amp fuse in that have any effect on the overall ring? Does the ring current still
Flow through an FCU even if switched off?

loop impedance, temperature, cable factor.... Discussion Threadloop impedance, temperature, cable factor.... Electrical Advice

Hello
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum area to post this in, apologies if it isn't...

I've been working through some mock questions on-line, and found myself confused by this:

The measured value of loop impedance for a circuit is 0.83ohm.
If the temperature at the time of the test was 20C, and the cable is 70C (factor 1.2) what is the corrected...

Fishing for desk lamp fitting advice Discussion ThreadFishing for desk lamp fitting advice Electrical Advice

Hi,
I made this ceramic angler fish at a beginner’s pottery course, with the intention of turning into a desk lamp. Now comes figuring out how to make the electric part fit!
I wondered if any forum members out there knew of useful parts that could help complete this.
I have copper pipe, and a vintage-style fitting running through it. My two issues/questions are:
  • how can...

Firstly hi all not posted for a very long time for one reason or another, hoping to be a little more active on here as and when i can.

As the thread title suggests my query is regarding a HMO that i am currently working on completing and EICR.

Each consumer has a total...

Lighting cct - shared neutral Electrical Advice

Lighting cct - shared neutral Discussion ThreadLighting cct - shared neutral Electrical Advice

Whats the best way of making good this lighting problem?

In a dist. board, there are 3 x separate fuses feeding 3 x separate lighting circuits. However, the 3 circuits share the same neutral back to the distribution board.
A notice has been given to put this right.
It's impracticable to run out 3separate neutrals as they are quite a way across the factory site.
Lord knows why the test and...

Sky mobile anyone? Electrical Advice

Sky mobile anyone? Discussion ThreadSky mobile anyone? Electrical Advice

Is anyone using Sky Mobile ? I'm currently with Tesco but their prices seem a lot higher than Sky. Both use the O2 network so no difference there. My contract is up so thinking of swapping over. Anyone have any 'don't do it' or general bad service comments? The carrying data over bit seems useful and I can get 25Gb with Sky for around the same as 5Gb with Tesco.

Meter Fault Ampy 5184A Discussion ThreadMeter Fault Ampy 5184A Electrical Advice

Hi Guys
My tenant has an Ampy 5184A electricity meter with Economy 7 for storage heaters (there's no gas in the area). Following a power cut the meter has ceased to work, showing a blank screen and no blinking red light to indicate power flow. He thinks the meter is no longer recording consumption and is using lots of electricity rather than reporting the fault. I've told him to stop because there's...
