I haven't installed it, don't worry.

I bougt this ceiling light that came with a metal housing and no ceiling rose. The only thing in there was this plastic junction box for the L/N wires.

Means I'll have to use some Wago connectors to make up for the ceiling rose. But what about ground...

Electrical Safety Solutions for a Property Without CPCs Discussion ThreadElectrical Safety Solutions for a Property Without CPCs Electrical Advice

Hello All,

I have a slightly different question today, I have a customer who has multiple lights without CPCs terminated, the cables completely lack a CPC, however in some rooms they have a CPC and in other rooms they do not, so yes a CPC leaves the board, but does not run to all light fixtures and switches! Most of the class 1 equipment...

Can Solar panels cause tripping when isolated Electrical Advice

Can Solar panels cause tripping when isolated Discussion ThreadCan Solar panels cause tripping when isolated Electrical Advice

Anyone know if its possible for a rooftop solar array to cause an RCD trip even when the solar circuit is isolated at its rotary isolator ? I've had no dealings with solar atall so wouldn't know . The solar circuit is in a split load RCD board. I'm assuming the solar install was bonafide as its on a fairly newbuild. Stray earth current leakage from the...

The whole experience hasn’t been good at all with weeks of no tutor available or having a non electrically qualified person (bricklayer) who...

Is there a table of expected R1+R2 results in BS7671? Discussion ThreadIs there a table of expected R1+R2 results in BS7671? Electrical Advice

Evening...

I always use my OSG to find R1+R2 when needed for designing a circuit (staying withing the Zs limits), but I wondered if the same table is somewhere in BS7671? Its table I1 in the OSG. I've hunted high and low so I expect it's just something that the OSG offers and isn't in BS7671, but I thought I'd ask :smiley2:.

Is there a...

My recent Napit assessment. Electrical Advice

My recent Napit assessment. Discussion ThreadMy recent Napit assessment. Electrical Advice

Just a bit of reassurance for those of you who are about to be assessed for the first time, and some advice for those who are already registered.

The initial assessment takes around 3 - 4 hours. Subsequent assessments around 1.5 hours. They are definitely not out to fail you, they want your money. Virtually everybody passes.

Open, read and deal with the link the assessor sends you as this...

Light switch with overrun timer... Electrical Advice

Light switch with overrun timer... Discussion ThreadLight switch with overrun timer... Electrical Advice

I went to swap a fan for a customer, they wanted a humidistat one. When I dropped the old fan I found it was wired with T&E.
I explained there was no permanent live so no overrun was possible, and that I'd either have to make a lot of mess running a three-core or they'd be best off leaving the light on after using the shower, they said to put it back for now.
Then I thought, could...

Oven element insulation resistance readings Electrical Advice

Oven element insulation resistance readings Discussion ThreadOven element insulation resistance readings Electrical Advice

I have a dual grill element from an electric oven, one circuit of which trips the power when switched on. I have removed this to replace it and have since tested it with an insulation resistance tester. For the good circuit, I get a reading of 500MegOhms, for the supposed "bad" one, 20MegOhms. I am puzzled by this since (a) I read on the internet that element...

Hi all.

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question. I apologize if this it's not.

I'm hoping to change from a domestic spark and get myself a career in HV.
Most of the positions I've seen advertised stipulate City and Guilds 232 as a required qualification but I can't find any information about this course.
Is it a bit like the BESC which is required for grid work but you can't 'walk in off the street and...
