And here's why....

In order to install an EV Charging point at the rear of our Garden for the Odd Designated parking bays we have, the reinforced cable for such would have to run the length of the Garden - where there is a hot tub Present.

Do these cables need to be x metres away from Hot Tubs? I'm getting Herbie Geebies about it visibly...

Earth tag requirement Electrical Advice

Earth tag requirement Discussion ThreadEarth tag requirement Electrical Advice

My rental property was deemed non-compliant with electrical code because the earth stake wasn't labelled as per 5.5.1.3.

5.5.1.3 also says "Exception: Where the method of connection to the electrode precludes disconnection, this requirement need not apply."

In my case, there is a dedicated earth stake by the gas line which would be difficult to disconnect. Other electricians have come out in the past for...

Mechanical ventilation commisioning cert. Discussion ThreadMechanical ventilation commisioning cert. Electrical Advice

I've fitted a couple of in-line fans in an office refurb which are for a toilet and a shower just like I have done many times in the past over the years. Because of the extensive refurb/alterations that have gone on there is a building inspector overseeing it and he has sent this to the main contractor as one of the outstanding issues.

Whats all that about then, it...

Hi there,

I'm planning to replace the MCB on my outdoor electrical box with a better quality one, and since there is already an isolator installed by ESB Networks, as a DIY I can safely do it myself. My question is, about the isolator marked inside the orange circle. Does anyone knows what key should I use to rotate it to the OFF position and is there any safe procedure...

EICR bonding connection not visible/accessible Discussion ThreadEICR bonding connection not visible/accessible Electrical Advice

What is the case in if you carry out an EICR and you cannot get to the connections of gas/water bonding to get a reading?

The gas meter is outside but I see no bond to it. I cannot find the water stop ****. There are a few GY cables at the MET and I guess I could disconnect the cables and long lead on to the pipes themselves and test each cable to see the...

Solar hot water controller Electrical Advice

Solar hot water controller Discussion ThreadSolar hot water controller Electrical Advice

Hi all

I have a viridian solar clearline v200 controller which has failed. The warranty on the unit is 2 years and it's 2.5 years old. Having spoken to them they aren't willing to help me at all and no longer stock the controller so I can't replace it. Honestly Viridian Solar are just useless. The PV inverter they installed failed too but luckily that was in warranty.

Anyway the solar thermal...

Not posted for a while. Van broken into, last time was a few years ago, and since then always taken my tools out at night.
They got in (Transit Connect) pushed it back from against the wall into the middle of the road, pulled the strong box out the side door and made off with it. The box was empty fortunately, the main problem is they have stuffed the ignition barrel so I can't get the key in. Hope...

Live garden SWA wrapped in tape Electrical Advice

Live garden SWA wrapped in tape Discussion ThreadLive garden SWA wrapped in tape Electrical Advice

The image shows an SWA feed for a garden building which is not yet built. The feed is part of a new build house installation and the circuit is supplied via a hager RCBO and was energised when I found the cable, I've switched the breaker off. Is leaving a circuit in this condition compliant with the 18th Edition?

Thanks

Fire alarm panel. Don’t recognise fault code Discussion ThreadFire alarm panel. Don’t recognise fault code Electrical Advice

The big stately home I’ve been working in has an EMS 5096 alarm system with over 100 detectors and 3 (that I know of) panels.
All detectors are battery powered and radio back to its closest panel. All panels are also radio linked together.

They get the odd fault code which is usually a flat battery. They can change the battery’s and reset the system...
