Extending ring Electrical Advice

Extending ring Discussion ThreadExtending ring Electrical Advice

Hi guys, I’ve just been to a customers house. It’s an old house which has a few radial and ring circuits for sockets. They want 4 extra sockets to be installed. The ring circuit is feeding the whole house (not kitchen) would it be ok to tap into the ring circuit feeding the house and add the 4 extra sockets.

Thanks guys

New extract fan, severe draft Discussion ThreadNew extract fan, severe draft Electrical Advice

Hello,
As many, I'm for expert advice. I just had an extract fan fitted in my kitchen. The make the electrician brought was Addvent, I think 6 inch fan. I realised today, sitting about 9 foot from the fan eating a meal that there was a very unpleasant cold breeze. The whole room is just not warm now but the wind caught my attention. As its been snowing & the wind is coming from the east it...

Heater running at 1600 watts Discussion ThreadHeater running at 1600 watts Electrical Advice

I recently purchased a space heater and before using it full time I plugged in my watt meter to see how many watts and amps it pulled. I was not happy to see 1600 watts at 13.1 amps which is above code I believe. Should I return it? It seems unsafe to run for 8 hours or so on high

Completing electrical certificates Discussion ThreadCompleting electrical certificates Electrical Advice

Hi all, question on testing and completing certificates inside a large factory in maintenance, a lot of the 3P boards here are full of cables, when we are adding to existing circuits, it would be required to perform the necessary tests, R1 R2 and Zs for instance inside the boards, how do we go about this when we are unable to isolate the board, having to open up an old board...

Stovetop Discussion ThreadStovetop Electrical Advice

New stove top was recently installed. The next day I couldn’t get it to turn on, so I turned off and on the breaker. Went to the stove top and it worked perfectly making dinner.
The next day I can’t turn it on again, same thing, turn off and on the breaker and it’s working fine.
What’s wrong here?
Shouldn’t be a fault. Is it overloading after working fine for an hour or is there a reset switch that wasn’t connected in...

Xmas lights Electrical Advice

Xmas lights Discussion ThreadXmas lights Electrical Advice

Bought a set recently from a Bedfordshire supplier, although a Chinese firm.
Couldn't believe the "mains" cable and the fitted fuse.
Mains cable is flat 3mm x 0.6mm. Fuse is 13A!!!
Plug is one of those Chinese specials with reduced dimensions.
See pic.

Hi all,

Just been on a kitchen remodel, has used the existing cooker feed due to difficulty of run/budget, but the kitchen fitter has kindly put a couple of rows of shelf brackets directly above the cooker switch and perfectly pinned the N to the CPC. Builders being builders seem to think it's fine as the fault "disappears" when the screw in question is removed.
I'm unhappy and will ultimately go and fix and make...
