New to forum doing apprenticeship Discussion ThreadNew to forum doing apprenticeship Electrical Advice

Hi, new to the forum and currently doing my apprenticeship. Although I’m an ‘older’ apprentice this is certainly something I’d look into. I’m a qualified mechanical technician but most places now ask for multiskilled so thought better late than never to get my electrics. How would this sort of thing work now with Brexit etc…? Would be interesting to see if both my mechanical and...

THTC and SPD's Electrical Advice

THTC and SPD's Discussion ThreadTHTC and SPD's Electrical Advice

Probably more of a question for those north of the border.
What is everyone doing for Board changes with Total Heating Total Control?

I had thought to use a 4 pole SPD in a separate enclosure but Space is a bit limited and adding another 8w board might be a bit tight.
Or additional SPD kit in an SPD split load board with an additional small board for the hot water.

For context it's 2 THTC boards on separate phases and...

Wagos for oven Electrical Advice

Wagos for oven Discussion ThreadWagos for oven Electrical Advice

Hi all. Hope you are well.

So my dad has just bought a new induction oven. He already has an electric oven under it which appears that it is hardwired from 6mm T&E that literally just comes out of the wall 🤦🏻‍♂️

the new induction hob has 5 wires (which obviously has doubled up lives and neutrals) but along with the oven as well it would be much easier in a confined space to connect in a junction box with Wagos.

Hi All,
I am new here.
I searched the forum regarding this issue and most professional advice was that the heating element should be at fault.
I am a DIY person and I would not have a problem replacing it myself, only that a new heating element costs £45 on Zanussi.co.uk and I would not want to pay for it if thats not the issue.

Tone generator advice Electrical Advice

Tone generator advice Discussion ThreadTone generator advice Electrical Advice

Hi,
Could I ask for some pointers and recommendations for a tone generator/tracing tool please?

Having browsed various sites including Amazon, CEF and RS the range of options is vast from £20 up to many hundreds. Are the cheap ones junk? What do the more expensive tools provide? I don't have a specific budget in mind but keen to avoid "buying cheap and twice".

This is for occasional DIY use, prompted by...

How much are we charging per point. Discussion ThreadHow much are we charging per point. Electrical Advice

Hi guys

Been having a lot of discussions about pricing jobs lately.

Was wondering what kind of prices per point are we all charging.

We are currently at £70 per point for sockets, switches and lighting.

It will be interesting to see the difference in pricing.

Insulation resistance results weird on actuator circuits Discussion ThreadInsulation resistance results weird on actuator circuits Electrical Advice

Interested in people's thoughts/experience here. I've just been testing out the insulation resistance on a 20 year old surface water pollution control facility. It has a large number of penstocks with Auma actuators.

Here's the puzzle: on a few of them, the resistance - although passable - is conspicuously low at 3-4MR in one case...

Hi all.

Insulation resistance fault of 0.34 Live to Earth

IR fault at CCU now >10MO
I re-energise at the CCU so I can see if any other lights are now working so I can narrow down the fault.
