SY cable - earthing the braiding Discussion ThreadSY cable - earthing the braiding Electrical Advice

Hi all, we have a situation where we have a 3 phase bit of equipment thats on a 32amp commando plug 3 phase. Its wired up in sy cable and using an sy gland the braiding is earthed on the load side. There is no room in the plug (supply side) to get both the braiding pigtailed up and the conductor in the plug terminal. Any advice on this? Also what is the most tough flexible cable on...

Anyone use one? Been diagnosed with (mild) carpol tunnel so looking to de-strain as much as one can.

I've sometimes used an impact driver for repeat actions such as unwind and sometimes partly assemble consumer units (milwaukee have a gentle finger-tight setting on them) but figure the right tool would be better and always to hand, but theres some price variance - I like wiha but does it justify the price...

Megger 1kv IR faulty? Electrical Advice

Megger 1kv IR faulty? Discussion ThreadMegger 1kv IR faulty? Electrical Advice

Hi, I have a megger 1741+ that won't perform the 1kv IR test.
Everything else on the tester is good but when I press test with 1kv IR settings it triple beeps, that's with the leads not connected to anything (or connected to a circuit).
Is there an easy fix for this or does it need sending back to megger?

Thanks

How to reduce power to a heating device. Electrical Advice

How to reduce power to a heating device. Discussion ThreadHow to reduce power to a heating device. Electrical Advice

OK, this is a weird one!
I have a grid tied PV system which exports spare power to the grid.
The maximum it will export is around 2.5kW
Now I want to use around 1.5kW, but I want to use it to heat a 3kW element.
So it will be a slow long heating rather than the full 3kW the element normally takes.
I can send the spare power I have to that element no problem, but at...

This is an issue that is starting to get more of a ball ache for me, when theres a smart meter installed without an isolator and I really need to cut the power (CU change for example). My question really is this, has anyone here, or any of your customers been fined/reprimanded/imprisioned/threatened in any after a smart meter has alerted the provider that powers been cut, due to...

Surge protection on wind turbines Discussion ThreadSurge protection on wind turbines Electrical Advice

I have recently been asked to surge protect a family friends wind turbine. It's about 30-40foot high and it's something I've never done before. Any ideas?
I have done a lot of looking into it and it looks like a much bigger job than I originally thought.
I've read that it will most likely need multiple surge protectors... one for the outer casing and more as close to all the...

AFDD's in Care Homes Discussion ThreadAFDD's in Care Homes Electrical Advice

I work in a care home. Recently we had some sockets installed. The Eaton DB's we have, will not accept AFDD's apparently, so the contractor fitted a AFDD in a metal module next to the DB.

I understand the reasoning for AFDD's in CH's, but one socket was for Sky Q equipment in a protective shaft, and cost us about £200. Our property is like a Village community with sleeping accommodation on ground floor with...

Hi everyone,
I want to make a variable Wattage box. Mainly for testing purposes.
I want some small scale, medium and if possible, some big scale variable wattage ranges.
