Electric Fire Install - Gas pipe consideration Electrical Advice

Electric Fire Install - Gas pipe consideration Discussion ThreadElectric Fire Install - Gas pipe consideration Electrical Advice

Disclaimer - this isn't directly related to electrical matters. Rather it's a question about a situation which has cropped up during my going to quote an electrical job, and is basically me looking for any hints as to how to make certain (or as certain as possible) that I'm not going to drill through a gas pipe. As such hopefully its still not off topic...

Converting Crabtree Starbreaker to full RCBO..? Electrical Advice

Converting Crabtree Starbreaker to full RCBO..? Discussion ThreadConverting Crabtree Starbreaker to full RCBO..? Electrical Advice

Evening All

Quick question please and hope it's poss.

With an older star breaker split load DB, can I take out all the guts (apart from 100 DP iso) and convert to full rcbo?

Are all the 'plug in bits' a live terminal (e.g behind where RCCB currently is) ?

Would make my life easier if so ;-)

Thanks Sy

Relay for a car horn upgrade. Electrical Advice

Relay for a car horn upgrade. Discussion ThreadRelay for a car horn upgrade. Electrical Advice

OK, I only know the very basics when it comes to electrical circuits so any help will be really appreciated.
The horn on my car is a single tone sounder, (factory fitted). I'm curious if I can upgrade it to a dual tone. I'm aware that I may have to wire them as a parallel circuit but would I need to upgrade to a different relay as well?
Could I as an alternative swap to a different 'rated'...

Any recomendations for outdoor trunking? Discussion ThreadAny recomendations for outdoor trunking? Electrical Advice

I need some outside containment for about half a dozen or so unsightly cables run outdoor - a mix of black telephone, black security alarm, red (now faded to orange) fire alarm. These are all existing cables, and need tidying up and supporting properly (currently all tied to disintegrating plastic drainage pipe with cable clips that are also breaking down in in...

Forum Categories have Wicked Content Discussion ThreadForum Categories have Wicked Content Electrical Advice

Been working on these on all my forums and it's a really cool way to use the categories which otherwise just have the same forums in them as is displayed on the homepage, so its kinda duplicate content and Google doesn't like that.

So I've worked out a way to show some of the biggest threads, or busiest threads, or trending threads (quickly climbing in either).

BG Split load board 18th edition compliant? Discussion ThreadBG Split load board 18th edition compliant? Electrical Advice

6 Way Metal Dual Split Consumer Unit c/w 2 RCDs (Type A) c/w 6 MCBs | BG (CFUDP16606A-01)

BG are stating that these are 18th edition compliant. I'm doubtful if they meet regulations 536.4.3.2 & 536.4.202 - overload protection of switches and RCCBs.

the RCDs are rated at 63A. There is no way of configuring the supplied MCBs that doesn't exceed 63A.

Good evening all - I used to be a member of this forum ages ago, but couldn't work out what my username and old email address was, so decided it was easier to register again.

Many years ago, (2012?) at home I had installed a 4kw system - 20 panels with a Diehl AKO Platinum Inverter 4300S. We had it installed just six days before the really good FIT rate reduced by half...

Testing the SELV Electrical Advice

Testing the SELV Discussion ThreadTesting the SELV Electrical Advice

Correct me if I am wrong but if we are to test a SELV transformer do we:

1. Join conductors of low voltage side of transformer together.
2. Join conductors of primary side of transformer together.
3. Test between these at a voltage of 500V look for minimum reading of 1 MOhm.
4. Test between joined conductors of low voltage side and the earth of the primary side at 500V Look for minimum of 1MOhm.
5. Test between...

Lamination polution problem Electrical Advice

Lamination polution problem Discussion ThreadLamination polution problem Electrical Advice

Hello everyone,

We have observed the formation of EVA residues during lamination in solar panel production, which leads to contamination. Additionally, there is contamination caused by the Teflon wheels after lamination. What solution should we use, how frequently, and how should we clean the EVA in the lamination process? What is the most suitable type of Teflon for this purpose? Could you...

There used to be a blue button at the bottom of each thread, near the post reply button.

It would take you back to the new posts screen.
for the last week or two this button has gone missing in action, I hope its stay in computer hospital / therapy etc. is a short one because I miss it terribly.

If for some reason it has slipped and fallen into the recycle bin, can someone jump in...

Modernising a Domestic Servants call system Electrical Advice

Modernising a Domestic Servants call system Discussion ThreadModernising a Domestic Servants call system Electrical Advice

I have a house built around 1900 with a servants call system. The indicator/bell unit is similar to the one shown in the attachment and the push buttons are all in place. Internal wiring of the unit is complete and local tests prove it all works. Unfortunately, all the wiring from the push buttons to the unit is not and it would be a major undertaking to rewire...

Fluke 1664FC setting Discussion ThreadFluke 1664FC setting Electrical Advice

I recently bought a Fluke 1664FC. It's great but recently I chose to do a loop test on the no trip setting. Plugged the 3 wires in but noticed the screen says it's set for a L-N test with only Live and Neutral plugged in. I pressed F1 button to change this to L-PE, the tester beeps but it doesn't change. Anyone know why that might be? Cheers

Adding test switch to emergency lighting Electrical Advice

Adding test switch to emergency lighting Discussion ThreadAdding test switch to emergency lighting Electrical Advice

I’m at the funeral directors clients at the moment testing their EM lights.
Only the newer lights I put in have a test switch fitted.
I’ll be recommending addition lights in the WC and staff rooms. Pitch dark in there.

There are 2 other EM lights above exit doors… they have been replaced in the past with LED, but there is no, and never has been, a local test...
