Unvented hotwater cylinder Discussion Thread

Unvented hotwater cylinder Discussion Thread

Hi,

The invented hot water tank is dripping water continuously. I have tried to top up the air as suggested in YouTube videos by shutting off the hot water outlet and cold water inlet into the tank, opening the hot water tap to let the water out then opened the valve to air in. Have kept the value open for over an hour, however when I turn in the cold water in let and hot water outlet, water starts to drip.
Boiler is working fine, no issue...

Milwaukee Press Jaws Imperial vs. Metric Discussion Thread

Milwaukee Press Jaws Imperial vs. Metric Discussion Thread

I’m moving from USA to the UK and with my tools is my Milwaukee ProPress gun. I am under the assumption that I will need to leave the 1/2” 3/4” and 1” jaws in USA and buy new 15, 22, 28 jaws in the UK unless someone here might know if the imperial jaws will press metric fittings too?
Thanks in advance.

Running mdpe externally in rainwater pioe. Discussion Thread

Running mdpe externally in rainwater pioe. Discussion Thread

Hi all.

Wondering if anyone has done this and if so what insulation did you use? I have about 1 metre that needs to run up from patio height to just above the damp proof course. The wras approved pipes are quite big and costly and I have lots of rainwater pipe I could use.

Cheers all.

Hope you are all doing well.

Pushfit fitting/pipe ok to rub against one another? Discussion Thread

Pushfit fitting/pipe ok to rub against one another? Discussion Thread

Hi

I've been swapping rads in my house and during one rad swap I used the original notches on the joist to run the new flow and return pipes. In one notch both the flow and return touch and might get pressed against each other when the chipboard goes back down.

Should I open up the notch or reroute the return (left valve pipe)? Or is it ok they touch together?

I've attached photos to illustrate, last photo is a...

Power Flushing Central Heating Discussion Thread

Power Flushing Central Heating Discussion Thread

Hi, I have an old 3 story property with radiators on each floor. The radiators have become increasingly less efficient so feel flushing the system would have a hopeful benefit. I have bought a secondhand flushing unit (pictures attached) and would like some advice on how to set it up. Also, should I put some form of product in the system to break up the sludge before flushing. Any advice on setting up etc., would be much appreciated...

Sealing off isolation valve Discussion Thread

Sealing off isolation valve Discussion Thread

Hi,
The isolation valve feeding my toilet cistern was leaking. After considerable effort, I was able to lift up the cistern to put an O-ring washer around the top of the inner circle referred to with an arrow in the attached image. Unfortunately, when I let the water through, there was a burst leak. Should I use a flat-ring washer instead? If so how can I get the right size?Should I put the ring at the top or push it down?

trying to fix a Old very Large Tap in a Commercial Kitchen Discussion Thread

I have a Very old commercial kitchen in my School, it dates originally from the 1950’s, it has had modernisation, but many of the Plumbing Fittings are original or contemporary with the period.

I need to replace the Washer in a Hot Sink Tap, just getting it apart required an impact wrench due to accretion of Limescale inside the body, I now have the Tap Disassembled but the Washer Size is 1” And I can’t find...

Toilet won't stop filling Discussion Thread

Toilet won't stop filling Discussion Thread

Hi All,

I need a assistance. I have toilet with buttons instead of a handle.

We had issues before we it would not stop filling and just pressing the button a few times would fix that.

That stopped working and then upon inspection the mechanism was covered in black gunk.

This was cleaned and the toilet still didn't stop. I then filled the cistern with warm water and citric acid to see if that would clear any scale that may have built up...

Hot Water For Bathing Ideas Discussion Thread

Hot Water For Bathing Ideas Discussion Thread

I live in an apartment with a cold water tank. The cold water tank feeds the cold water tap in the sink and the bath. Recently, I refurbished my bathroom, and according to the plumber who fitted the new taps, high-pressure taps were fitted. Consequently, the water from taps is of a low volume and rate. I wonder if the main water supply could supply them? Please let me know if this is possible. The plumber who fitted them said there was a...

Concealed Cisterns Discussion Thread

Concealed Cisterns Discussion Thread

My daughter has received a quote to replace all items in a bathroom. The quote includes the replacement of a toilet with one having a concealed cistern. I am a little worried that replacing faulty parts in in a concealed cistern will involve more work and therefore more expense than doing the same for a normal non-concealed one. Is my concern justified?
