Pumping over Discussion Thread

Hi everyone we have an issue with the f@e tank it’s an open vent system gravity fed and the pump is pumping over into the f@e we had the the pipe work for the cold feed changed as it was clogged however it is still doing it even with the pump turned down it’s looking like the vent has been placed on the positive side of the the pump. Can the vent pipe be placed on the return or can we move the tee joint where the water goes up into the loft for the vent...

Small rental portfolio advice please. Discussion Thread

Small rental portfolio advice please. Discussion Thread

With the up and coming Renters Charter, its probably time to start thinking about increasing the efficiency of our small portfolio. 4-small houses.

Two of our four 1990's properties have heat only systems with non-condensing boilers. One on the garage wall and one on the kitchen wall.

The other two properties of a similar age have gas connected, but use E7 electric heaters. Probably ideal candidates for combi boiler systems...

Baxi 105e pump head removal Discussion Thread

Hope you confirm something’s for me, boiler calls for how and ch but am not sure if pump is rotating, have checked if it’s stuck via inspection cap on pump which is ok. 240v at pump and on pcb so that’s ok. Can someone tell me how I check if it’s rotating, if not it states drain primary circuit I presume this means shut all valves on cold inlet, supply and return on ch and drain system via drain clock, or am I missing something like drain...

Grundfos Alpha1 L 26-65 replacement Discussion Thread

Just had a call out to no central heating and the pump needs replacing tomorrow. It looks like the Alpha1 L has been discontinued as its not listed on Grundfos website and it looks incredibly difficult to get hold of one. Typically their technical help is out of office now until Monday so could really do with some advice on a suitable replacement. It's from a Grant combi

TIA

Combi boiler - heating not working Discussion Thread

Combi boiler - heating not working Discussion Thread

Hello
The heating side of my Ariston Combi A23 has stopped working since a new 3 way valve has been installed.
It's been a hugely reliable boiler up until now with regular servicing.
When the heating is turned on the boiler ignites and looks to start up but then a few seconds in, knocking sounds comes from the boiler and kind of makes it's way down to the pump (which appears to be working) and then all stops.
The pressure is...

Anti vermin outlet. Discussion Thread

Anti vermin outlet. Discussion Thread

Feel a bit sorry for one of my neighbours, youngish family that have been flooded twice with flooring ruined both times because rat(s) got in through the washing machine outlet and burrowed through pipe to get to the ktichen. I got involved and despite my experience the fecker took an age to poison with the kids having to sleep in parents bedroom because they could hear it or them scuttling around at night.

Anyhow I made them a barrier for their...

Help joining waste pipe to shower waste please Discussion Thread

Help joining waste pipe to shower waste please Discussion Thread

Hi, just a quick question about the standard way you connect 40mm waste pipe to the outlet of this waste I have. The waste outlet is too big compared to the tube to be solvent welded (it's more like 43mm internal diam) and there are no threads to allow a compression fitting, I'm confused.

Pics of said waste...

Isolating valve Discussion Thread

Isolating valve Discussion Thread

Is it good practice what I'm planning to do. I want to drain the central heating and then put 2 isolating valves on the flow and return in readiness for when I purchase another radiator and that way after doing a little bit of pipework I can just top the system up. I want to drain now while the weather is warm and not do it when I'm freezing my nuts off.

Stopcock Advice Discussion Thread

Stopcock Advice Discussion Thread

Hi Everyone - I'm after some advice. Hope someone out there can help. The stopcock in my flat is located in my kitchen. When I turn it the cold water immediately stops running from my taps but the hot water continues to flow. Is there a reason for this? Does the hot water perhaps need to drain before the flow stops? Not sure if you need this information but I have a Viessmann Vitodens 100 boiler and Kingspan 1050 x 400 water tank.

Thanks

Solvent or push-fit? Discussion Thread

Solvent or push-fit? Discussion Thread

Can anyone explain why we have two different sizes of waste pipe for solvent weld and push-fit connectors? Why didn’t they just make the push fit connectors a bit bigger so they would push on a solvent weld pipe rather than have the confusion of needing a different size pipe and compression fittings to switch between them? It would make sense for the manufacturers and stockists too in almost halving the inventory they have to carry.

Fitting ABS pipe Discussion Thread

Fitting ABS pipe Discussion Thread

Anyone worked with this plastic pressurised pipe much? This week was my first and i thought after my years of experience that these stressful days were mostly behind me...alas they are not.

Ordered up the stuff in preparation for the job, informed the entire building that the water would be off for 24hrs to allow the glue to cure and then proceeded to drain down and cut out the old stuff yesterday, only to find that the stuff that was in was...
