need a new shower but my hot/cold pipes are reversed! Discussion Thread

Hi All
I need some advice as to a replacement power shower and there are a few problems
I have posted a photo showing the old unit ( a ShowerForce 2000 ); it has supply pipes which run down from the roof and into the left side of the unit as shown

The big problem is that the hot and cold are reversed ie the hot is on the right and cold on the left
I have heard that it is possible to get a reversed cartridge? that...

Found a plumbing course but not what I expected? Discussion Thread

Hi all,

I posted a question back in 2020 so rather than bringing that thread back up thought I'd start a new one. I've been in a few jobs since I was made redundant back in 2020 but still in IT. I am still thinking my calling is in a trade and Plumbing seems to be the one I'm drawn to the most, I've managed to gain a little more DIY skills as in putting up more curtain poles in bedrooms, fitting a new basin in the...

Indirect (Boiler Fed) Megaflo Doesn't Stop Heating Discussion Thread

Hi,

I noticed yesterday that when my HW is on, that the boiler runs constantly... I even tested this morning after it ran last night so no water usage overnight and it ran for 30 minutes before I turned it off on the controls. No dripping from Tundish.

My suspicion is the thermostat in the Megaflo which presumably is demanding heat continually. The boiler temp is 60c so it isn't going to overboil the water the...

Capping off redundant pipework question. Discussion Thread

Capping off redundant pipework question. Discussion Thread

Hi all.

I done some work for someone a few years ago and I've been getting paranoid that things haven't been done the right way.

I capped off a gas cooker supply that was no longer in use, left the redundant pipework capped off at the appliance isolation valve in the kitchen.

I'm getting paranoid that if someone later down the line for some reason, was to drop the pressure in all of the pipework, say during a boiler service...

Name That Training "Provider" Scam - Share to help the cause Discussion Thread

We haven't had many of those training provider scammers posted about on the forums. They must still be knocking around. We're now not hosted on a .co.uk or in the UK and our head office isn't in the UK either.

So BRING IT ON! Gimme them names let me blog about them all!

Please add as much detail as you can to this thread and I'll help add a bit more and then I'll move it to a thread of its own, using...

Breakdown of costs to become "oil" qualified & OFTEC registered Discussion Thread

Hi all,

Please can you advise on the above, estimates of costs would be fine.

I realise it depends on my competency / skill set & experience to a degree. I've no "oil" experience to speak off apart from a couple of boiler installs back in the 1980's! I'm classified as Category 2 in the "prerequisites for OFTEC assessments"

List of costs:
1. Specialist tools & equipment (recommendations of brands...

Fixing the upright of a shower enclosure

Is there anyway of getting a good fixing, where the upright of the shower enclosure meets the continuous edge of large vertical porcelain tiles? I'm concerned about the possible cracking of tiles with holes drilled so near to the edge, and also the possibility of leakage. Laying the tiles horizontally is going to be so bitty. I'm quite prepared to make a payment for anyone who...

Hello a regular member

Loving your Forum for ages, but lately with all the ads I’m not a regular visitor.
I’ve actually got an “ad block” on my devices, & need it on.
Obviously I know all the reasoning behind the ads needed to keep this great site working.
Love to get back to viewing like I use to, & hoping I can maybe soon😎

I'm tidying up the forums a bit Discussion Thread

It's been a while since I've stepped back and took a look at the forums which are being used etc.

The Plumbers Arms and Gas forums are all now public, but you won't be able to post in them without meeting the usual criteria.

Private Forums detract posting from the normal forums which Google 'crawls' and then indexes. The more threads we have out of the eyes of Google the less chance we have of new members coming aboard.

I've made...

Help Needed: Fixing My Damaged Tub with Devcon Metal Patch & Fill Discussion Thread

Hey everyone,

I have a pretty messed up tub that I need to fix, and I'm hoping to get some advice on how to do it. I've attached pictures of the damage and the Devcon Metal Patch & Fill (Charcoal Gray) that I plan to use for the repair.

Has anyone used this product before? If so, could you guide me through the process or share any tips for the best results? Any advice on surface preparation...

Tree roots near oil tanks Discussion Thread

Tree roots near oil tanks Discussion Thread

I have a large oil tank spaced 1m from the garden fence. It sits on a concrete slab that extends about 0.5m from the tank on all sides. The top of the tank protrudes over the top of the fence, so my neighbour decided to cover the sight of the tank by planting five leylandii trees about 2ft from the fence, so trunk of trees will be just under about 2m from the tank and just over 1m from the edge of the concrete slab

I don't know how deep the...

Cold water flowing back into hot feed. Discussion Thread

Hi, I'd be grateful for some advice please. Every 12- 18 months I have a problem with cold water flowing back into the hot water feed through a shower mixer cartridge, causing all hot water feeds to run tepid or cold. Replacing the mixer cartridge fixes the problem, but only for a while.

Would a better solution be to have a water pressure regulator installed to reduce the pressure of the mains cold water? Are there any negative...

SVP (grey water) gases leaking out - What do you see (pics)? Discussion Thread

Hi all,

I would really appreciate your eyes on these pictures - What do you see ?
Does anything look strange about the Rockwool insulation to you?

I suspect that my long ongoing rotting veg/sewage smell is caused by a fault in this connection that has been hidden from previous inspections behind a layer of clean yellow Rockwool (see pic).

The connection is in a very awkward place to get to, behind...
