no room under my washing machine

No hinges. The area of worktop was at the end run of worktop so sat on the batten along the side and back. The client opted to use one of those trims to join worktops where the 2 met. I would have prefered just a join.

Did you just cut it with a jigsaw?

Cheers

Dont cut it with a jigsaw, the top needs to be cut into the laminate not through the chiboard or it will splinter

the edges need to be laminated to prevent water ingress also the joint is unhygenic as it will trap dirt

the top needs cutting through with a router against a straight edge

yes mate, it did chip the edges a little but that trim covered it anyway. If you use masking tape i am told this would stop the chipping.

i got a new jigsaw i just want to cut everything lol
you get the blades that dont chip that much they done a great job on the kick panels.

Thanks alot for the advise.

cut it from the underside way rather than from top if possible, this will stop it chipping. also if you scour the worktop first with a sharp stanley knife where you are going to cut this will stop it chippng. when cutting worktops that are fitted i use my bosch gop cutter near the wall edge as you can plunge cut near the edge without the risk of damaging anything else.

ive just read back through the the thread and your talking about routing out the underside of the top to accept a washing machine

all tops have to be sealed all round as the chipbard will absorb water and blow the laminate off

the underside of your top has a paper stuck to it. this has two uses , one is a waterproof barrier to protect the chipboard core and the other is a counter laminate to prevent the top bowing, if you remove the paper the top will curl

routing twenty mm from the underside will leave you 8mm-18mm of top, this is insufficiant thicness for a kitchen worktop

we have in the past made removable sections over the fridge to allow the client to retrofit a larder fridge, these removable sections were screwed down to keep them stable, I dont see how you can fix down this section of top once you have installed the machine or how you will install the machine with the top screwed down

is it not possible to gain the room you need by removing the top of the machine as already suggested, the top is removable for this very reason
