Hi there, this is my 2nd posting following my 1st one earlier this morning (solid bed or dot n dab)
As I suspected everyone says to use the solid bed method, especially in wet areas.
As I may go back to doing the tiling myself on some jobs is it acceptable to use a larger notched trowel...
Hi guys. I'm about to start tiling my bathroom. I've got 250 x 300 x 9mm tiles, using bal single part flexible which recommends thin bed solid bed trowel for application. I've searched and can't find what trowel will be right for the job. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Cheers
I have been trying out the Genesis Tiger trowel, yes the wobble notch item.
It is said to enable you to get a solid bed of adhesive. In the past I have tried the Rubi 45 degree notch and the Raimondi slant notch but this is by far the best. It doesnt use as much adhesive as you would think and...
What do you do?
mine is left hand bucket trowel on to right hand flat edge of trowel and plaster on to wall on vertical motion from batten up, repeat till whole wall is done at a height of 400mm up from start, then serrate in a vertical line enough for one course then slip up and over excess...
Just a little query on the old quarter inch notched wall trowel that BAL used to recommend but now they dont,so why were they right years back and now its not recommended the adhesive's are not much different today tiles are fixed more or less the same way, does this mean that they can get it...
From what I can gather from this very helpful forum, to fit 10mm thick mosaics, I need a 4mm trowel.
It seems that to get a solid bed, you need a rounded notch trowel or is that on the larger sizes? Most of the 4mm trowels seem to be square notched.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Guys
I'm installing 250 x 750 tiles in my bathroom can you advise what trowel size should I use (square or notched)
The walls are hardie backer board and plasterboard
Thanks in advance
Simon.
Hi, I have a 10mm Rubi u notch trowel I was planning on using for floor tiles - could I also use these for the wall tiles - the wall tiles are 25 cm x 38 cm ceramic tiles - walls arent too bad, not 100% level but perhaps 5mm out at worse point? Thanks

Hello all
I am about to lay 600 x 300 x 10mm porcelain tiles to a good level old concrete floor. I have read different opinions for which trowel sizer to use.
I was going to use a 10mm x 10mm notched.... and back butter the tiles. Will this be ok?
Thanks
Martin
I think he is on here as he is on the TTA board. He very much rates these trowels and apparently zee germans have been bending old trowel combs over for 25 years to obtain a true 6,8,10...12mm bed !
Has anyone used them before and what are your opinions ? I was dubious until we had a chat...

There are many methods of how adhesive should be applied to a substrate to create that solid bed when tiling floors.
This video should help members that find it a little difficult to understand how this can be achieved.
It does say in the video that back buttering isn't necessary but IMO back...
