Sorry but i thought this was a workers forum. Seems not

it is. and that is why people on here have the view that they unemployed are lazy. the members of this forum work incredibly hard for every penny they earn. why on earth would they want their taxes going towards the ignorant and arrogant people who believe that taking state handouts is their only way in life?

Sure you seem to think it's ok to find loopholes

i don't think it's ok to find loopholes. what i actually said is that people do find loopholes. and people are inventive and creative, and will always find a ways around difficult situations. no matter what rules and restrictions you put in place, they will never be totally infallible. it's like your pc's virus protection - it's only as good as the latest big virus it has to deal with. somebody is always around the next corner waiting to outwit the next generation of virus protection.

Tax evasion costs the treasury 15 times more than benefit fraud. why not go after tax evaders

Its not benefit fraud thats the subject here, its people who are claiming benefit legally but because they've been allowed to get away with it for so long are now more inclined to sit on their lazy a**es rather than make an effort to go out and earn an honest living and actually contribute to society

loophole?
to me a loophole is there to be exploited,it is a legal way to get around a situation!
by using a loophole you have not commited any crimes or wrong-doing but have went out your way to comprimise with a situation that will preserve what you have worked all your days for while still paying your quota!
far different from the long-term unemployed(wasters in my opinion) who have contributed zilch to the economy and tax-evaders who have no intentention of paying what they owe to the government!

never a truer word said mike

im old enough to have lived through numerous governments which is why i get annoyed when people lay the blame for all our ills at the foot of one particular government, its a continious process , governments get elected on the promise they will sort the mess out and then find its too complex and there are no simple answers. the legislation they bring in causes a different set of problems

at the end of the day there are too many people living in this country, theres not enough work for them all so the state keeps them. as they are better off on handouts they wont take the low paid work. employers need to fill positions so they look abroad for labour. legislation brought in to protect these vulnarable workers means that after 6 months they have full workers rights, the employers replaces them at 6 months and they go on benefits. they are better off on benefits so wont take low paid work. its a vicsous cycle that needs breaking

so who do you blame

the government for tying the employers hands with employment law that makes employing workers for more than 6 monthe unviable

the workers who have been dismissed before they have protection against dismissal and then find they are better off on handouts

the new workers who come here for a better life for them and their families with a promise of a job

something needs to be done , but what

the answer is that the unemployed take the low paid positions so employers dont need to look overseas for employees

if it was me I would just stop their benefits so they have to find a job. I would set up shelters for them to live in and feed them from a food kitchen. they would very quickly find themselves a means of earning money then

problem is its against their human rights and we would have to leave the eu to do it

meantime the taxpayer has to foot the bill

this has come from a life long socialist who believes in society looking after its own

problem is theres only so much milk of human kindness one man can carry

would a fair solution to the benefit system not be to make it that people cannot draw more money in benefits than thay have paid tax in say the last year-i.e you have never worked you cant claim!

that way the benefit system would be for those who it were intended for-people in short term difficult situations
I think that would be a very fair system David and your right the system was originally set up to help those in need between work not as an alternative to work

would be good but//
then there's the kids they have had (most likely to get more money) do they go without to

same goes with the idea work for the dole
1st excuse stops them from looking for work

2and they need a supervisor and more than likely transport ( tax payers expense)

3rd insurance yes they need insurance to work on property

4Th training health and safety (more taxpayers money)

they tried it down here didn't work
it sucks but because of idiots not giving due care for others only thinking about themselves the rest of the honest people have to support them
