Acceptable lippage in large format floor tiles

@callatiler it’s laid over wet overboard UFH so I’d be worried that would be damaged. Can’t afford to buy new tiles and pay another tradesman so will need to live with it. Will be looking for a reimbursement though, you reckon the full what is due back?
Yes full refund and tell him he is lucky you are not pursuing cost of tiles he has used.

The other tiler came out and was appalled at what he saw. He’s suggested raking out the grout and putting in a darker colour to try and hide the shadowing from the lippage. He’s also suggested smashing out some of the extremely poor tiles in the areas that will see the most traffic, since these will bother us the most, which is sensible advice. Finally he’s given advice on how to take this further in terms of a claim.

Original tiler has finally responded to say he will come out tomorrow. Unfortunately we’re both working, so have asked for wed but no response.

What’s my angle if he does ever show up? I’ve asked that he come and rectify the grout since that seems like the easiest part and he had essentially already agreed to - thought with that angle he’d at least show up. Trouble is the whole thing is a mess and I’m smarting from it, but ultimately want to claim money back. Just don’t want to put myself in a worse or same position.

I have a feeling I’m not getting any money back, he’ll either say no, or yes then never hear from him again. I’m gutted. OH and I have decided that if we’re totally conned with no come back we’ll need to live with it for 5 years or so then get the full lot ripped up and redone when we have some more money saved.

I have read through all of this and tried to make my opinion as objective as possible....YES the floor could've been tricky once he started, YES cheap tiles can bow, and the differential already mentioned would suggest this as a possibility....but the standard of the finished floor is miles away from being to an acceptable standard (this doesn't help you much at this stage I know!) and the state of the grouting is amateurish at best, and I mean at best! Throw into the mix tiles with 3 breaks in them.....there is no where to hide for our man.

Are we allowed to ask who the culprit it or have i missed that bit?

Your first port of call should be to get clear and concise advise on what your rights are and I would do it ASAP just in case there is any potential to miss things due to time line etc

You should also trawl through texts and emails to see what you can pick out from him that may help at this stage.

I am sure we have all opted for the cheaper option at some point in our lives, but you have been well and truly let down by this plank.
