tysfoot thats a very wise decision m8.Just keep going around tradesmen, kitchen and bathroom fitters and im sur something will turn up.When the monthly payers get there cash at end of month you will see a rise in phone calls and potential business bud, hang on in there and keep YOUR MONEY and dont waste it on these advertising ventures, why do you think they are calling you....to get your money.Stay clear of all cold callers m8.Bri:grin: Set an ISA up for yourself dont bother with endowments the return is shocking,i just had a 10 year policy mature and i put 3000 over 10 years in to it and i had a return of 3600 with Liverpool Victoria so what a s h i t t y return eh?

When it comes down to marketing in any form whether a mulitnational business or a sole trader, it is important to get inside the mind of the customer / potential customer.

What would you do in there circumstances if you were looking for a tradesmen? Personally I would look in the yellow pages or online, and looking in the local supermarket wouldnt even cross my mind.

When you go into the store take a few numbers down of the tradesmen who are currently on the board and see what business they have gained from the advertisements.

As i have said before the most important thing is to monitor youre marketing. Ask everyone who calls you for a quote where they got your number from. If possible keep track of how much you have earnt from each form of advertising vs how much you have spent on it.

hmmmmmm,

i seem to differ to most here.
to me seems worth investigating more. 520 for the year, what you got to ask yourslef is whats my day rate? and there fore do i not think that i can get even two or three days(or whatever it works out for you) work out of this tesco s scheme? then after that its made its money.

I think sometimes you gotta work it that way, no matter what the scale, you looking for commercial work the advertising will costs you thousandsm but then one job wil bring in thousands... same with any job, work out what it would take to get your money back and then consider.

now, if i didnt make my 520 back in the year i would go at the tesco machine with a lump hammer but thats another story.........:mad2:

This is an angle cold callers use all the time - you will be the only tiler, plumber, doctor etc.. advertising with us blah blah blah...
Its the kind of patter these wall planning con artists come out with too.
They try to make people feel priveliged so that you make an impulse descison based purely on emotion.
You shouldnt have to pay that kind of money just to get cards displayed anywhere - its ridiculous.
You can get a similar if not better result by leafleting cars in DIY stores - especially on a saturday..
I'm always wary of people offering to do my marketing for me - ie middlemen that will always charge a lot and then your budget doesnt stretch so far.
I reckon its usually best to take a direct more personal approach and get your business cards directly into the hands of people you think are you most likely customers.

I'd not touch it with a barge pole mate! They are just trying to shore up their own businesses. Of all the times I've been to Tesco, and ours is a large one, I have rarely if ever seen anyone stop and look at their advertising board because they are invariably placed by the tills and all people want to do is get out.

Best way of drumming up business is to print off 5000 cards and spend a couple of days pounding the pavements in an area you want to work in and on a day their local newspaper isn't delivered. Expect a 4% return rate, which means you could be quoting for 200 jobs over a period of time. Remember that not everyone will want something tiling at once. Do a couple of good jobs in that area and your name will soon fly round.

Good luck!

I agree, i have been advertising in Focus for the past year on the same type of scheem. it was a total waste of money. I had no calls

Save your money mate
----
Yell.com is the up and coming way to advertise, i have been in the yellow pages now for about 5 years and i have found that the number of calls from it have dropped. Yell.com and being set up on the search engines like Yahoo and Google work very well.

We have to get with the times lads. its all at the press of a button these days

For wot its worth............Yellow pages has'nt been that clever for me..........3rd year now, and to be honest........I don't know why I bother.

Best form of advertising is "WORD OF MOUTH"

Just try and get more jobs under ya belt and put yourself about. Tile shops etc etc, Flyer handed out...........ring around Plumbers,Kitchen fitters etc etc.

It takes time..........don't rush it.
