Hi I have recently moved into a ground floor flat which only has a bath and half-tiling. My plumber has installed a shower onto the existing tiles and fixed the shower head and rail etc to the current stud work - this will be changed later.

I believe the walls are emulsion paint on stud work or dry walling. From what I've read I should 1. rough up the paint lots and 2. use an acrylic adhesive - not PVA.

How much should the paint be roughed up as this is dry wall and I don't want to start digging holes in it 🙂

Can I/should I use an all-in-one type adhesive and grout or as per experience, would you recommend separate pots?

Thanks in advance.
Adam.

Re: Normal bathroom (not wetroom) adhesive

Hi cappsie,

Rough the paint up as much as possible to create a good 'key' for the adhesive (if possible sand it down).

Don't use an all in one adhesive and grout, its crap, use a good trade adhesive and seperate grout such as BAL and you won't go far wrong mate.

Bal is an adhesive and grout manufacturer, one of the best around, available at TOPPS and other big tile stores.

Ah cool stuff many thanks 🙂

How do you rate B&Q's own "value" bond and "value" grout and how do you rate the Unibond stuff?
