bal or mapei?

Just spotted tjs mention of Bal Tad. This was the 1st adhesive I used, it came in tins, not buckets. Richifix, was another early one. These came in just as I started serving my time. Prior to that it was all sand and cement fixing

How times move phil and other comps have entered the uk market and charge a lot less than the older one that used to be the tilers choice...they no longer top the uk market when it comes to adhesives etc.

So many brands now.. tilers have a choice compared to many moons ago.

Mapei for me to , although Nicobond keenly priced and have had no issues with it.

I am lucky in that I have been established for many years and my customers have what I supply, never used anything other than BAL in my opinion the best selection of products which can be trusted, superb tech support & recently new improved products like Single Part Fastflex, Supercover adhesives and Variset are pushing the boundries of adhesive technology. It is still true that you get what you pay for & Mapei although a good company with some decent products will have to hike their prices up soon only making £250,00 of profit last year, cant buy a decent house for that !!

I much prefer Mapei products nowadays, but was always a BAL man years ago Thats why it was like having an old friend around last week when I used BAL Rapid Set for the first time in about 9 years:hurray:It was all I could get my hands on in a hurry for a job and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all - I had not used it since they added Porcelbond and you can certainly tell the difference from the old stuff, definately lots more polymer in - well done BAL (albeit a belated congratulations - by about 6 or 7 years!!:lol🙂

bal single part flexable £30; mapei single part flexable £15 need i say anymore.

I'd say Mapei made more profit than that off one product! There is no way a company as a big as Mapei can't produce products that clear at least 50%+ margin. If anyone tells you any different I'd question their motives.

Companies like Mapei have come to the UK (weber would be another one) who already manufacture in 20 to 30 countries and have worked out how to make good profit out of building products or they wouldn't be coming over here.

The range of colours is second to none (grouts, epoxy and Silicon) and you can get Mapei much cheaper than Bal if you shop around. They are the world leader and you can tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
