Do you ever know when to say NO!!

I was asked yesterday to look at 110 mtrs sqr of polished Florentine 300 x free length..


I went and viewed and discussed the job in hand and the agreed a price and agreed to tile it..

Now the point.. i am booked till early December and thought ah.. i will squeeze it in..:lol: nice job and nice money but maybe i should have said NO!! as i am now gunna have to work some silly hrs to get it completed.. as he wants to start next saturday..:yikes:

Do you ever say NO or just try and squeeze things in etc..?

I say no a lot as ive learnt that lettting people down is more damaging than explaining I cant work to their time scale due to other commitments

Very hard to say no especially to a big fix. I always seem to say yes as well and then do as you say Dave, put the hours in to get there.

i think when you are booked up for 3 months, then you should be looking at taking someone on and expanding. that way, someone does the big floor for you, you make some money on them and the customer gets there job done...

theres more than one way to skin a cat...expansion looms for davidhowetiling ;0)

also, look it another way...you put a grand in the bank and look at the interest rates :0( put up a grand, pay a lads wages and you'll easily get 10% back....

My customers come to me Ed for my quality and not another tilers.. So i could not sub it out... if i reject a job then i pass to another tiler , hence i have no involvement in the quality issues.

This job is 2 mins from me in the van and is good money i could not turn down..


But would you have said NO!.. do you say NO!..lol..

i used to try and pull rabbits from hats but i agree with mike now, i would rather pass it on if theres a chance it could backfire. if it can be fitted in, then its a no brainer really isnt it?

I find it hard to say no, but sometimes have to. I don't do the weekends or nights anymore, done my share of those. Most of my customers will wait. hopefully.

i would of said no ...........to old to be working silly hours and theres more to life than work..............however i would of explored all posibilties getting loads of help in and wipeing it out super quick would be my only option but then you have to look at the profit and see if its worth it.

before the recess , i used to pick and choose my pools and customers, not now!! i try to pack them all in!! if not then never pass on or recommend others as you cant vouch for another's work IMO and they may let me down soz!!

I never used to pass up on work, but with family commitments now I quite often turn it down.

a job of that size and quality id fit it in,,if im busy and there area smaller not so financially worthwhile jobs needing done i sometimes say no

I usually say I'll fit jobs in but I might have thought twice on a 110m squared job to be squeezed in!! It's ok if you've got a help in hand but I work alone and sometimes it's difficult to squeeze in the bigger jobs!
