Driving down a road in Crewe today and came to some speed bumps, the type that are like 3 large sections in the road, gaps in the middle for emergency vehicles to drive through at speed.
Moved over to drive through the gap and at the last minute saw a flamin big hole getting ever closer, there was no way to avoid it, then there was a great big BANG!!. I thought I had blown a tyre so stopped and got out to check, the nearside of the van looked like it was sitting on the tyre.
I went to a friends garage and it turns out I have snapped the spring clean in the middle, not the suspension coil but the leaf spring that runs from wheel to wheel.
Going to cost at least £600 to fix and the van is off the road for a week.
I was so mad that I rang the council there and then and complained, they took details and asked me to take pictures and forward a copy of the repair bill to them. I got a reference number to make sure they cant say it was repaired before I complained.

I know what you all mean I got square whhels on my van after hitting them:mad2:
you could have tiled the pot hole and opend it to the public as a communial pool m8.

i did a H&S course with my previous employer, that was one of the subjects it costs more to repair the roads than it does to pay compen, cant see why tbh.Hope your back on road soon.

Our council seem to be doing quick fills in the worst holes but still plenty about

Hello DiamondTiling

Sounds like a nuisance - My wife deals with third party claims from public against our local authority for exactly the same type of incidents.

She says - That, unless your Crewe council elects to pay this as a good will guesture, you will need to prove that the council was negligent by not inspecting the highway within the statutory time / inspection periods. Also as you now have a customer care number - they must repair the defect within 24 hours - If they don't they will automatically be liable for all damage to other vehicles that are subject to a claim beyond that time period.

Her advise, Get a motor /garage report to ensure that the vehicle was in good order before the incident. Copy this to them with a properly constructed letter of claim. if you have photo's of the raod defect - showing the relationship between the nearest indentifable road feature - ie the edge of the speed bump and a depth / width measurement - preferrable with a tape in the pic it will help

quick fixing our roads at the moment by shovelling chips and stones in the holes:yikes: holes are empty 3 hours later complete waste of money

The van should be fixed today so its just a matter of handing over a thousand pound coins to get her back.
On top of that I have wasted days not working, lets hope the council pays me for those as well.

😛rrr:😛rrr:
