  • Okay so Google is still only about 60% of where it needs to be so I'm needing to restructure the ads again for sure. Haven't been done for a while.

So I'm thinking of a couple of settings changes.

  1. Only 1 ad in-page at the top of any thread that's less than 30 days old. So any active new threads get no sticky footer ads and things. For logged in people only.
  2. If a thread older than 30 days gets resurrection it'll have 3 ads on the page total. Top of page, above first post, below first post. Rather than max ads with sticky footer ad and side rails and things. This may encourage a reply, as it'll cut some ads out, and maybe increase response to old threads. Maybe.
  3. People who have posted a new thread in the last 10 days get less ads on older threads and no ad at the top of new threads. To reward them and encourage posting of new threads.
  4. Logged out people get the maximum allowed ads. And a link under each one encouraging them to register for less ads.
  5. Threads 1+years get max ads also. But resurrect one and it goes back to 3 ads, as it has come back active.
This is a totally new setup and will need a fair bit of programming but I think will be well worth it. As for active members using new threads and new posts a bit, should reduce the ads you see.

As some know I've been battling with Google for over a year now, about 15 months actually. It's a fickle thing that works when it works well, but when it doesn't work it really doesn't work.

Obviously the ultimate ad-killer being subscription which supports the forum and gets rid of all ads.

What do you guys think?
