BoltonTiler
Hi my names Tony from Bolton, joined up a few days ago and have spent some hours trawlling through the threads and posts on here. And i must say what a god send this forum is, the topics and advice are second to none.
I got made redundant recently from a 13 year service in manufacture, the company went through the 90 days consultation period, in which time we were advised on what to to do.
Talking to a freind of mine that i helped lay my marble floor in the kitchen, he said i should have a go at tiling based on my attention to detail when i helped him out, we were both graters that worked manually hard.
Got my redundancy payment from my last job and took the plunge. Did an extensive tiling coarse, plumbing (payed for myself) and about to to do a part P electrical course.
I think so far taking the plunge has cost me 8k, and reading the threads and posts its deffo a hard time no doubt about that........ Got my advert in the local rag next week, fingers crossed i may get a phone call.
I am under no illusion that times will be hard for me, but i have invested in my skills/comitment, and self belief for a nice future and hope to at least keep my roof over my head.
Any tips on getting your name out there would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Tony.
Note: If you have just recently suffered redundancy and you ask for funding on courses, and your local job centre says no, ask for a more experianced advisor, because their is funding..... i was ill advised twice, hit bingo on the third meeting, and now i want a reimbursement for tiling, plumbing course, due to lack of job centre staff training when i first got interviewed.
