I was just reading another thread in the tiling tools group from Dan on tiling starter kits and after he listed a profile guage he put two question marks, i was led to believe a profile guage was a standard tilers tool? i know another way of marking shapes on tiles is to transfer a series of dots and then join them but isnt a profile guage quicker and better? He then lists paper and scissors, is there a better way of shape transfer using these? Any thoughts are most welcome

Yes, You get your piece of paper and cut in to the rough shape of the toilet foot, but a bit smaller, you then offer it up then cut it again until it fits perfectly round the toilet base, then you trace it onto a tile and cut, the paper is basically impersonating your tile, its an easy way to make a stencil to mark the tile.

The flexicurve is easier you just mould it round the toilet, it hold its shape so you then pick it up put it on the tile and mark.

Easier still is to remove the loo and tile under it but its not always possible as weve all found out at sometime or other.

I was taught to use the stop bar from a rubi cutter, you slide it around the item you wish to cut around whether it be a pedestal, toilet, or poll dancing poll making small dots which you late join together to make the desired curve. This method leaves me with perfect cuts every time.

the most important part of this method is to line the tile up perfect at the start remembering to leave grout lines where necessary etc etc. its a bit to complicated to explain but when shown and talked through it couldn't be easyer!!

I've used profile gauge and found personally it's to easy to make a mistake with one.

I'd say the most important part of this method is to have a rubi cutter stop bar......:lol:
