Just had an argument over a silly petty thing

I scoop from the bucket with a bucket trowel, put the addy onto the notched trowel, and then onto what ever surface it is that I'm tiling with the notched edge. I only seem to use the flat edge in two or so situations:

  • When I need to smooth small irregularities in surfaces with addy
  • When I set fix mosaics, and I need to "build" a little on the substrate to make the mosaics level with surrounding tiles
Every man to his own though...

you have been taught the correct way but your father inlaw does it the sensible way also a gauging trowels only use on a domestic is to lift floor tiles time is money in the real world lots of people can tile but not many can make good money at it 😛ete

I do it the same as your father mate, never had a problem with it. Seems like a waste of time putting it on flat only to have to notch it after, cut out the middle man

Only my opinion mind, whatever you prefer, same as all things like this, personal prefernece, no one person is right.
