liquid damp proof membrane help please

Hi Peckers mate..

You need to remove the bitumen coating..then apply a liquid DPM..

No way around it for a long lasting cure.

These 2 grinder attachments from tradetiler will help with this clean up..

Cupped Diamond Wheel

Fits standard type 115 mm angle grinders (100 mm x 22.2mm bore.)

Ideal for grinding away bumps in uneven concrete floors and keying old tiles or terrazzo before tiling

Wire Brush for Angle Grinder

A very aggressive wire brush for use in an angle grinder - You will be amazed how fast this works!

Use to remove all kinds of unwanted paint, adhesive, rust and other surface contaminants etc

Very good for 'keying' smooth surfaces.

- Hardend & twisted 0.5 mm steel strands
- 75 mm Diameter
- Standard M14 thread (fits all standard angle grinders)
- Max speed 12,500 Rpm

In this instance a slurry coat will not help in the keying process.

So you deffo need to clean the substrate first..
Thanks dave you have confirmed what i was expecting you would say(and it was in the back of my mind"it will have to come off") hard work again nothing changes :mad2::thumbsup:

If it was a bitumen pour then you could have but seen as damp is present then it isn't a pour just a paint or bitumen adhesive previously used for vinyl tiles..

So sorry mate needs to be removed... and charge well for it.... on that size floor you could hire a bigger machine for it..

But also a labourer will be handy...

Steve, Laticrete is sold world-wide. I know at least some of their products are available in the UK because I have told other forum members about products and they let me know that they located the material in the UK. You could send an email to the home office in Connecticut and ask them for a retailer in your area.

I have been on the phone to a few companys today reference liquid membranes, and i have decided to use one company for the membrane and the adhesives as this is the only way i will get a full gaurantee!

Mapei do a product called TRIBLOCK P Has anyone else used this before? there technical department has advised the use of this with other products to gaurantee that it will stop the rising damp.

I am also trying to work out the quantity needed and my head has hit a blank can anyone else help with the quantitys this is how you work it out!
we will base it on an absorbent surface, to cover myself.

mapei states..
CONSUMPTION
400-500g/m2 per coat on absorbent surfaces
there is 20m2 to cover x 2 coats total =40m2
it is packaged in 5kg kits

total amount of 5kg kits needed????? help please..

1 kilogram(KG) is 1000 grams..

500g per m2 coat , so 1 kg does 2 m2...40m2 div by 2 = 20 div by 5kg = 4
