Old times reality check.[/h]
hang on 40m2 kitchens, christ, big kitchens, come on bugs ?

Yep easily!
St Margarets hospital in Birmingham. It was a massive looney bin. Each ward would have a huge kitchen, basically four walls with nothing in it. (40m2 on average).
You'd turn up plim a line around the room, cut a gauge stick, then set your h-trim to that. No bottom cuts.
Then get tiling! 6'x 6' as the lads say, you'd grab a handful of tiles, stick it with Bal Wall, no spacers needed.
Done and grouted by four, dead easy!!!

Started my career tiling Naval ablutions with pilks Autumn fawn on the walls and surefoot and coving on the floors , great days. My saturday morning job was to grout the floors.

Diggy :0)

Pilks had some exciting tiles then!!!!
But considering how basic everything was, very little choice in adhesives, grouts, nothing primed, most tubbed adhesives on walls, Bal CTF2 if you were doing a rendered shower room...very little went wrong. If you were a good tiler they stuck!

Its good to get on a big open space nowadays. One I remember from a couple of years ago were school changing room walls. 40m 8x8 cinca with no cuts top or bottom working off lathes tiled in two days. The annoying thing was that I was just coming to the end of my time so was earning £40 a day. Think I made the boss a few quid on that job after four changing rooms.

He did alright out of you then!!!!

Did the loos in a huge distribution centre in 8'x8', they are a great size to work with! 100's of meters with H-Trim bottom and suspended ceiling top, perfect unskimmed plasterboard walls, heaven!!!!

Was amazing how many metres could have been fixed in a day 20 years ago when it was 6x6 and not large format rectified. I know old tilers who could have fixed and 2grouted a 20m bathroom in a day.
Did the Mc Carthy Stone retirement flats in the 80s bashed out a flat a day 27yds2 grouted with 6x6 was earning more then than today but tax was 33% then and what about the old cameo tiles those were the days not a lot of heavy lugging.

And as for CTF 2 wasnt that a pain if you had to chop out a damaged tile sometimes you would end up taking out a dozen tiles because that stuff was so hard you just get to the last bit and you chip the next tile :mad2:,no angle grinders with diamond blades in them days.

I remember old peterlee court house , did male toilets , 44yds 6x6 done dusted by 3pm 🙂
Bing bang bosh. Those were mad times.

Contract work was in and out. Hated it but it paid bills.
