I have a job to do soon, I am ripping out two units on an Industrial estate, the spec is to leave the building as was when new. At the moment the floor is tiled, about 140 mtrs, I intend to remove all the tiles. Is there an SLC that will leave the floor strong enough for pallet trucks etc or will a screed be the best bet?

I might have to get the floor painted as well.

Weber do a SLC suitable for fork lift traffic.
Weber.niv dur.
Lovely stuff to use and not to expensive either.

hi dom

what depth ??

1-10mm mapei ultra plan
3-30mm mapei ultra plan maxi .........

both suitable

Weber.niv dur
Nivdur tecknic

High performance fibre modified self-levelling screed

  • For correcting surface irregularaties on diffucult surfaces including wood
  • 3-30mm bed thickness
  • rapid drying, suitable for light foot traffic after 3 hours
  • Fibre modified for increased resilience can be pump fed for largeer areas

I put a post on here a couple of weeks ago with a load of info on the Mapei SLCs. I dont know how to add a link to it but if you can find it, you can have a look though and see which one youd want to use.
That is if you wanted to use Mapei.

Its going to be about 8 to 10mm, my only concern is if it has to be painted in the future? Would it take paint? I have laid loads of SLC but never been asked if they can be painted.

:20::20:

So you want the SLC to be the final finish that the forklifts can drive over.

Not suitable IMHO..

Hope your not doing that by hand:yikes: or is the 140m in a couple of areas?

Thats one I havnt had to know before to be honest.

Dave are you saying that the mapei SLC are not suitable as a finished surface, as a surface to be painted or both?

Diamond Id be on the phone to Mapei, Im sure they will do something to suit as their products span across the entire building industry not just tiling products. That way they can point you in the right direction and you can find out which SLC they will gaurantee. Can you let me know what you go for? Would be interested to know.

I said not for driving forklifts over...

also,

id be on the phone to ajax and ask him for a local contractor to come out and machine apply/pump the screed...take all the hassle out of it and just put your bit on top.

Sorry its taking me so long to reply fellas, Ellie is not to good today and I keep nipping on here when she falls asleep.
I am going to give Al a call tomorrow and get some advice, I have to get some sort of price worked out by Monday.

What if I remove all the tiles down to the original concrete, is there a machine that will smooth off any residue of adhesive without scarifying the floor?

Concrete floor planer would be easier than a polisher. It would also open the surface of the concrete so you can get a key with primers and levellers.

Sommats like this one Floor Planer / Scarifier --- Speedy Hire

Thanks Al, much appreciated.

Would it take off the adhesive residue back to the concrete floor. Then if the new tenant wants to paint the floor its ready for them.

Hi Dom. Yes it will do that but it might leave it a little rough for painting. If you want a surface for painting you might be better off with a carborundum block sander. I trying to find one online and will post a link when I find it.

dom

i might be too late but just rang mapei and they recommend a product called..
ultra top ..it needs to be laid at a minimum of 10mm and its a finished surface product that can be painted and used in warehouses with standards sized fork lift trucks

they also do a range of finished paints for the floor under the name I 24..
sorry its a bit late mate ..

Thanks Ed, much appreciated pal.
After speaking to technical they reckon I would need 300 plus bags for 160 sq mts, that would cost £5600 and then my labour on top, its not feasible to be honest. 1.5 kilos per square metre gives 1mm build up and they recommend 10mm minimum for fork lift trucks, so that would be 15 kilos per metre.

Much appreciated guys.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:
