As far as I am aware there are only 4 people in the country who can do an official report for the TTA. I think the fee is now £850 + Vat, less for members.:yikes: it's a lot of money. I believe in small claims court any professional tiler can submit a report.

I will stand corrected if I am wrong.

But a TTA report is very thorough and will not be questioned in a court of law, where as an independent report if not backed by qualifications could backfire IMO

Hi all,

For those that are tilers, do you think it is an unreasonable request to ask a tiler (paid of course) to provide a basic report on the work that they think should have be carried out to avoid the tile lippage problem that I currently have with my floor.

Unfortunately I am not having much success with the guy that fitted the tiles to my floor and bathroom. He thinks he has done a good job so as far as he is concerned case is closed, but that is his opinion. I have been advised that some written recommendations would stand up in court if I have to take it that far.

As I say I am not looking any direct criticism, just written professional advise on what really should have been carried out by a majority of tilers.

Many thanks

hi geronimo,i think the best course is to get a good tiler round to inspect the actual floor.its all well us looking at some pictures but its not a proper inspection really

i think if you get a tiler to do the report and also state ont his you will be using another tiler to correct the work this would put you in good stead as the tiler doing the report has nothing to gain so to speak workwise from stating his opinions

Does anyone know an assessor from the TTA, to advise if it is worth having an assessment based on the photos here and in relation to their lippage tolerance (which I do not really understand)? I have contacted their technical department and I received a letter/form to pursue the query and that is about it. If I had some judgement based on this evidence I may well take them up on it but without some serious indication I cannot afford to throw away another £950, I may as well re-purchase some new tiles.....

The only positive thing about that job is the silicone bead around the tub!
My last 5 enquiries have been for remedying poor work. They really don't want to hear it needs to
be stripped back and started all over, which is perfectly understandable considering the financial outlay will most likely
more than double.
Best of luck in reaching a satisfactory conclusion.
