Daz i have PMed you about putting your email addy in here, you will end up getting spammed....you have been warned :smart:

Hi daz

I was shown the way you are thinking at college, this was fine as yyou could get up and walk through the non existant walls

so first kitchen job, squared up , worked out cuts and laid the room in quarters as shown

first quarter fine tiled it out from centre, couldnt reach the cuts had to leave them
second quarter same with cuts but tiles no longer lined up with line struck on floor tiled it anyway

third quarter same , off line by a couple of mm

fourth quarter:yikes: didnt fit and never would

lesson learnt, lifted lot and spent afternoon cleaning and stacking tiles, cleaned addy off floor

had to think quick as the customer was due home, i told her the addy was duff and wasnt setting so i removed it in case it wasnt going to set properly

next day set out again working back in rows and cutting as i went, the job went well and i enjojed it

days money plus addy lost but a lesson well learnt

Daz i fail to see how anyone can realistically show you how to set a room out that they cant see. Now if you could upload a drawing of the floor then that may be a different matter. No 2 jobs are alike

Q "do you leave spacers in between tiles or remove them"

Leave them all in untill adhesive has fully cured, then take them all out before grouting. Otherwise.. :mad2:

hmm, I tend to take them out before addy has cured, I hate it when they snap off and leave little bits sticking up.

Doug, what are you sticking your spacers in with? LOL

err let me see, I use a solid bed trowel that can grab the spacers, why? how do you spread your addy on the floor? do you back butter the tiles to keep the joints clean??

I use a spacer to check my gap is within reason but other wise no, spacers are to hold your tiles off the lower tiles when tiling walls but are not used in the perps, again i use a spacer to check my joints and then check with my gauge rod
if the walls are uneven you may need to open or close the perps slightly to stay on gauge
