Hi Guys,

just thought I would let you know - it is official, I have had an inspection carried out by a Tile Association registered company and it is basically a bodge job - he agrees with a full hack off and start again.

see thread here http://www.tilersforums.com/tiling-forum/18723-what-bodge-up-bathroom-3.html

Should have the written report with relevant extracts from the British Standards.

I will send a copy of it to the tiler, demanding payment in full if not it will be off to the small claims court. Who knows, maybe his dad will come round again :incazzato:

Thanks again for all your advice

Cheers

Steve

Wow, what a read both these threads have been.

When I first started up, being in such a small town I was terrified that I would be classed as a cowboy for doing a "course" then calling myself a tiler. After seeing this shoddy workmanship I am proud to say that I would never work to his standards.

I have lost out on so much money due to my problem being that I am a perfectionist!!!

Never mind, been tiling since July and have only had one complaint which was due to the sealant on the shower tray coming away (due to the customer blasting it with a power shower 20 mins after we left).

I hope everything works in your favour and that this guy is put out of business, or takes a course and bucks his ideas up but frankly once he has lost his name, he has lost everything.

Really looking forward to pictures of the finished job.

HI all , not been around for a while, busy thankfully. Anyway from first hand experience of taking a customer to the SMC I can tell you that your report will be useless in court, the mediator/judge will offer you both the option of an independant inspection at a shared cost of around £200.00 each, fully recoverable by the winning party. The innitial cost will be £65.00 to start proceedings, if the tiler does not pay up then a further £65.00 for a hearing fee is payable. Trading Standards can sometimes persuade but that is about as much power as they have unless the chap has hundreds of logged complaints. Any more questions PM me.

Hi Jim,

they were given the option to have it inspected by TTA but did not take us up on it. I have followed Trading Standards advice in everything I have done - and will go into court with a wheel barrow full of tiles showing his DOT and DAB - reports from the adhesive manufacturer and a TTA member - both of them at no cost to me - the reports are independant, and witnesses from CTD to state that he went into their showroom at the beginning of March asking how you fit the tiles, with letters and proof of phonecalls to show that I tried to seek a resolution before taking this action.

There are no tiles to inspect in situ - we have had the bathroom done now as per the advice of TS - only photographs and video - some of them on here and the physical evidence I will take into court.

At the end of the day - I have followed the advice of Trading Standards - that is what I will tell the court.

Cheers

Steve
