Electrical Advice

If you can't split a circuit?

I am a retired electrician and I've been out of the game for a while. My son asked me a question the other day and I wasn't too sure how to answer it so thought you lot might.

He wants to use rails to supply 5 modules, each module will have 40 small actuators that operate at 24VDC at 0.9As. Normally I said he would split each module up into a separate circuit with each one on an RCBO but as they are all attached to the one rail he can't do that. Is the only option to have a huge RCBO...

What do you think? DC 1A rating??

I have been asked/invited to "post more", lol, so let me make another post right away.
I thought of sth worthy to post, of interest to many, I hope I found sth on the quick...

The photo is just to illustrate the switch I'll be talking about. What's visible, I did long ago, serves me well: power switching is reliable and safe, that's how I like it. ✅
So, again, the relevant part of the photo is just the switch display: the first ... let me count ... 4 images, counted from top left...

Eng tech/IET registration

Hello

Ive been working for over 20years, done design course and fully qualified.

Looking into the professional registration with the Engtech from the IET, just wondering if anyone else has done it and what opportunities it resulted in?

I'm currently a QS for a small firm and heavily involved in design and quoting for them. I am competent in controls and process controls.

Just asking if its worth going down this road and if anyone can give tips and help...

Research interview questions - advice on Wireless Charging

Hello, I need to conduct interviews with experts in the relevant field for my university project. The topic and product that I’m developing a business plan for is a device that charges household appliances wirelessly – a Wireless Multi-Device Charging product. Could you provide me with your expertise in this field by answering a few questions about my idea?

I am looking for any experts in the electrical engineering field, as well as manufacturers, retailers and consumers to answer some of...

How to go about making Adjustments to a Speed Regulator

Hi, I have a project I have been working on, that has me out of my depth with regard to my knowledge, as I am a very basic electronic hobbies.

It comprises of a 24V D.C electric motor, 200W, 3,000 rpm, 13A. which has a pulley, a belt from this attaches to a pulley on a drive shaft, where a flywheel is situated, and on the other end, is a pulley, with another belt, that goes to a 230v AC alternator.
The motor is controlled by a Electromen EM-285 DC-Motor speed regulator 12 / 24V 20A. The...

Cable Tray Load Optimization

There are electrical engineers who just mutter the slogan "Safety is the top priority," and simply convey old and inaccurate Cable Tray Weight information to the Architectural/Structural design department without trying to calculate the Cable Weight on the Cable Schedule.

As the result, some structures are over-designed, and others are designed to lack strength, leading to an accident in which the Cable Tray collapses.

Nevertheless, bad managers still seem to cover up the causes and facts...

Issues with Socomec Diris A20 Smartmeters

I am working at a site with around 100 of these meters installed on various loads. Doing an audit, we found that most of the meters were recording current exactly as our clampmeters showed (we used two, just to ensure some confidence in our manual readings). Some of the meters though showed variations of around 15-20% on some phases only. Occasionally, one or two phases would be accurate and one or two would be out by this amount.

We checked everything; the CT ratios, the programmed ratios...

Light switch with overrun timer...

I went to swap a fan for a customer, they wanted a humidistat one. When I dropped the old fan I found it was wired with T&E.
I explained there was no permanent live so no overrun was possible, and that I'd either have to make a lot of mess running a three-core or they'd be best off leaving the light on after using the shower, they said to put it back for now.
Then I thought, could the switch act as the overrun timer leaving the live live after switching off for a period of time? I've looked...

Dewalt drill parts

Is there a supplier of dewalt parts, namely the clutch of a 18V SDS dewalt drill.

The rotary stop of my drill must be worn out as the chisel spins with little resistance when it should be straight.
Hammer drilling and non hammer drilling seem to be ok.
I’m hoping I can just replace the innards.

I’ve probably worn it out myself as I’ve had a lot of chasing out to do recently…. But depending on price, I might just buy a new replacement drill.
