it is not a excuse that he is a handyman.he took job on, charged proper price and failed to provide good service.it is only his fault that he took job he can not do properly.just my opinion.

What price did he charge?
What price would a proper tiler have charged?
I'm happy to have a pop at related trades and welcome any comeback but if you want a cheapo job then don't come on a forum whingeing that your 'cheap tradesman' isn't what you expected.

this is a case of jack of all trades master of none. These are some of the poeple who are driving prices down and making it harder for real tradesmen to earn a living. the client in this case (bumslap) has to take some of the blame tilers tile , joiners butcher wood etc .............

I agree that you wouldnt have chosen me, mainly because im not a tiler and would never profess to be one.
I dont recall you saying how much you paid before i asked but i'd say £140pd is about right if you'd used a tradesman.
Learn from your mistake and in future remember that 'tradesman' and 'handyman' aren't the same.

he was not the cheapest and photos of his work, might not of been his work ,

But then again it might of been. Unless you check you don't know. But if he showed you glamarous pictures of wonderful professional tiling and then produced this rubbish for you you'd have some come back. If they were his pictures of his work you'd expect to get a decent job.

Completely agree, and this is the problem we have. Someone who "thinks" they can do it, "can't" actually do it, and has the cheek to charge a professional price, or worse undercuts the professionals and basically buys the work.

What you have to understand Bumslap. The large majority of people on this forum are professional tilers.
There are a lot of bad "tradesman" (for want of a better , more appropriate word) that undercut the professionals. The guys and girls on here and other professional tilers are bound to get anti. When they've spent years watching their trade, learning their trade and then years perfecting their trade.
if you want a tiler, employ a tiler, you want a plasterer then employ a plaster, and on and on.

Put it this way, if you wanted your motor serviced and mot'd. Would you take it to a garage? Or go to the spotty lad down the road armed with a haynes manual and a socket set because he was cheaper??

Eventually people will learn. Either by word of mouth or the hard way. Unfortunately you've learn't the hard way. Just make sure you LEARN from it.

Good luck.

I personally would not hire a handyman for anything! There poor at everything! As previously said bumslap, I hope you get this fixed and good luck with next guy

This guy has not got a clue how to set a wall out, i have seen some bad workmanship over the years but this has to be up there in the top 10. The best thing to do in the future is always make sure you have a tradesman who is recommended by a tile centre or by someone who he has worked for.

I personally think bumslap has been misled in a big way!! Lets be honest that if a chap pops round in a van possible sign-written, uniform ie. t-shirt with same names, logos etc. Lots of pictures in portfolio of jobs that arnt his who are we to dispute this... i would personally not keep sending each potential client around to the house of the last job etc to see the work, because if i was a customer i wouldnt want random people keep knocking at my door to ask to see my kitchen, bathroom etc. It really is a situation thats a difficult one to solve and probably never could solve fully. What i would say though to any customers is ALWAYS check the work after each day and youll spot dodgy tiling straight away and refuse to let them continue immediately!! Trust is the biggest factor on the job and its a 2 way street, ie. that we can tile and they can pay!

At the end of each day I ask my customer to look at the work that has been done. If they are not then it's easier to change anything at that point than when the job is complete. I always make sure they are happy with the set out, where cuts are etc before I fix any tiles. Can save a load of hassle at the end!!
