I have started my second job today and it's going ok, just very slow getting the old tiles off!

I am being left with what you see in the pictures below in a lot of places. Under the adhesive there is a thin smooth grey layer which I would be happy to tile on but it is quite flakey and loose in places. Underneath is quite crumbly and I can easily push my finger nail into it. It has a breeze block appearance

The customer wants it doing really asap but I am not sure if it with need plastering. Is there anything else I can use? Really need to know as I need to give her a yes or no in the morning to whether it needs plastering or not.

Thanks in advance

we would give 2 options for this 1) plaster the walls and wait 4 weeks 2) channel out sections to fit wood battons on the wall and screw plaster board over the top then tile asap

Don't think boarding is an option here. Is there nothing I can use to make it solid so I can tile on it? I don't want to make a balls of the job though

remove all loose plaster ,then patch up with rapid after priming with acrylic, and tile with Bal white star

You stole my reply mate, thats exactly what I would do  , great advice as always.

I think this is your best method mate if the customer is in a hurry.

To be honest for the second job I would be making sure the customer wasn't in a rush to get it done... as you can't rush a perfect finish IMO.

I would be looking to scrape that loose, flakey crap off and patch it up... could go for boarding too but... pain in the rear IMO.

Take GAZ'S advice if you want the job done quick, take control of the situation before it does just that to you!Try not to panic in front of customer and explain to them that its going to take a day or so longer,so to buy yourself some time.

Hi chaps! Thanks for the good advice as usual! I have a problem that I won't get it done this week if I have to fill with rapid set etc.

She works nights on and off so come monday next week i won't be able to go for a while. I'm not in a major rush for the money but she is in a big rush to have it done as she doesn't want a messy bathroom.

I think rapid set is looking the best way to do it. Can I still use it on this as the pics may make it look deeper than it is. It's only 2mm deep maximum!

I'm quite confident with the situation I just want to be well armed come the morning.

Mix rapid with warm water this will speed the curing process up,but dont mix to much up that you cant apply before it sets, then tile in rapid and grout following morning,or late that night (she gets the supper)not possible to do any quicker
