if your doing it yourself, pva the walls first 2-1 put bonding on the walls and wait for a least 4 hours or till changing colour and then skim

I had to cut out some of the old plasterboard and replace it as it was damp and falling apart.

Here are some pics of what I did, not sure if it's right as it was my first attempt. The last pic is after it has been tanked. It's all flat and secure.

What course did you do GAZ? and did you know a lot of practical stuff before hand?

Personally I wouldn't like to be doing all that work myself!! ... lack of confidence maybe

I did a 4 week course at Chase. Really good course. I am in touch with 3 of the lads on the course with me and all are doing well!

I have always been quite a practical person but there is no better way to learn something than actually do it. I have ripped down my bathroom and kitchen tiles. I took the toilet off and the sink, I took the radiator off too. All stuff I had never done until then but now it has given me confidence to do it again.

I have to say that the advice from the guys on here has been invaluble, they have helped me out in some situations I would have really struggled with otherwise.

Plus the more stuff you can do yourself, the more you can charge!!

You will get the confidence, i am starting to get it already!

you've done the right thing in telling the customer to get it plastered, if i advise a customer that a wall needs to be plastered first and they will not go with it i will walk away, not worth the damaged reputation should anything go wrong. ie: tiles in the bath due to poor substrate.

well said that man......

Did the right thing mate.
I always say to people' dyou want a quick job or a proper job' that usually makes them realise things cant be done over night.
This way, any problem that may occur with the walls are through no fault of yours.
Your the tiler not the plasterer, each man to his trade is what i say, no one can do everything
